Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - At around 7:00 am, you will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel to Alexandria (approximately a 3.5-hour drive) to meet your tour guide. Discover the beauty and Greco-Roman civilization on a day tour, starting with the catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, considered one of the wonders of the Middle Ages. It is the largest known Roman burial site in Egypt, with three levels of tombs that could hold up to 300 bodies. Initially intended as a private family cemetery, it was later converted into a public cemetery. The tombs’ architecture reflects Greco-Roman styles, evident in the wall decorations that blend Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic traditions. Burials here include sarcophagi, shelves, and urns of ashes after cremation.
