- Pompey’s Pillar - This solitary column signifies the location of what was once a grand and intricate temple, originally built from marble and adorned with precious metals inside. Some tunnels around the site still exist and are accessible for tourists to explore, and several artifacts from the temple have been retrieved. A life-size black basalt bull from the temple and a golden plaque marking the foundation of the Serapis are exhibited in the Greco-Roman Museum.
Qaitbay Citadel: Sultan Qaitbey constructed this charming fortress in the 14th century to protect Alexandria from the Ottoman Empire’s advances. Although his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, as the Ottomans seized Egypt in 1512, the fortress remains, strategically positioned on a narrow strip of land extending into Alexandria’s harbor from the corniche.

Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - The Arabic name translates to “the mound of potshards,” referring to the broken dishes and plates that marked the area before the tombs were discovered below. This extensive complex of beautifully decorated tombs dates back to the Roman Era and is regarded as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.”

Bibliotheca Alexandrina - Located on the Alexandrian Corniche, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a vast and impressive example of modern 21st-century architecture, yet it evokes something much older. The library and cultural center were inaugurated in 2002 as part of a significant project to honor Alexandria’s legacy as an ancient hub of global learning and culture.
