- Bibliotheca Alexandrina - The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, or Library of Alexandria, is a prominent library and cultural center located on the Mediterranean Sea’s shore in Alexandria, Egypt. It serves as a tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria and aims to revive the intellectual brilliance of its predecessor. The concept of reviving the old library emerged in 1974 when a committee from Alexandria University selected a site for the new library. Construction began in 1995, and after an investment of approximately US$220 million, the complex was officially opened on 16 October 2002. In 2010, the library received a donation of 500,000 books from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), making it the sixth-largest Francophone library globally.
- Pompey’s Pillar - Pompey’s Pillar is a Roman triumphal column in Alexandria, Egypt, and is the largest of its kind built outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. Located at the Serapeum of Alexandria, it is the only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt not made of drums and is one of the largest ancient monoliths and monolithic columns ever constructed.
