Exploring the Enchanting Cities of Puglia: A Day of Discovery and Delight
When the opportunity arose to explore the enchanting cities of Alberobello, Locorotondo, and Ostuni, I couldn’t resist. With a promise of history, culture, and stunning architecture, this tour was calling my name.
A Journey Through Time in Puglia
As I stepped into the comfortable minivan, I was greeted by the warm smiles of Mr. Cosimo and Mr. Mario, our guide and driver for the day. The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the picturesque landscape of Puglia. I could feel the excitement bubbling within me as we set off on our journey to explore the enchanting cities of Alberobello, Locorotondo, and Ostuni.
Our first stop was Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique trulli houses. As we wandered through the narrow streets, the audio guide provided fascinating insights into the history and architecture of these iconic structures. I couldn’t resist snapping dozens of photos, each one capturing the whimsical charm of the trulli. The highlight of our visit was the Trullo Sovrano, the only two-story trullo in Alberobello, which stood proudly with its 14-meter high dome.
After a leisurely stroll through the Rione Monti neighborhood, where we indulged in a hearty Apulian aperitif, we made our way back to the minivan, eager to continue our adventure.
Discovering the Charm of Locorotondo
The drive to Locorotondo was a scenic one, with rolling hills and vineyards stretching as far as the eye could see. As we arrived in this quaint town, I was immediately struck by its circular layout and whitewashed buildings. The audio guide led us to the Chiesa Madre San Giorgio, a stunning church with a rich history that dates back to the 18th century.
We continued our exploration, visiting the Chiesa di San Nicola and the Chiesa della Madonna della Greca, each one offering a glimpse into the town’s storied past. The highlight of our visit was the Palazzo Morelli, a magnificent building adorned with intricate decorations and a family coat of arms.
As we wandered through the charming streets, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of tranquility wash over me. Locorotondo’s peaceful ambiance was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The White City of Ostuni
Our final stop was Ostuni, known as the “White City” for its dazzling white buildings that gleamed in the afternoon sun. As we arrived in Piazza della Libertà, I was captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and the stunning architecture that surrounded us.
The audio guide led us through the bustling streets, past local artisans and shops, until we reached the Duomo di Ostuni. This magnificent cathedral, perched atop a hill, offered breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
As the day came to a close, I reflected on the incredible journey we had embarked upon. Each city had its own unique charm and history, and I felt grateful to have experienced them all in such a relaxed and intimate setting. The tour was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and I left Puglia with a newfound appreciation for its beauty and culture.
If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, I highly recommend the Puglia City Tour. It’s a journey through time that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.
