- Valley of the Kings - Spend an entire day on Luxor’s West Bank. Visit the Valley of the Kings and explore the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut on this private full-day tour from Luxor, accompanied by your personal Egyptologist guide. Journey to the West Bank to uncover the hieroglyph-adorned chambers of the Valley of the Kings, where 62 ancient Egyptian rulers were laid to rest, and learn about the pharaohs who were once interred here.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Next, travel to the Temple of Hatshepsut, a stunning display of geometric colonnades carved into a cliff. Discover the temple’s history and the life of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s pioneering female ruler. Wander through the courtyards and terraces, admiring the statues and hieroglyphics that embellish them.
- Valley of the Nobles - Proceed to the Valley of the Nobles, where the tombs of ancient Egypt’s nobles and high officials are scattered across the rocky hills on Luxor’s West Bank at the el Qurna site. Most of these tombs date back to the New Kingdom, the Golden Age of Thebes. Decorated with scenes of daily life, funerals, and the ideal afterlives of their owners, these tombs offer a wealth of information about life and religious beliefs in ancient Egypt. Their beauty also showcases the skill and creativity of ancient Egyptian artisans.
- Valley of the Queens - Also visit the Valley of the Queens, the burial site for the wives of Pharaohs in ancient times. Known in antiquity as Ta-Set-Neferu, meaning “the place of beauty.”
- Ramesseum (Mortuary Temple of Ramses II) - Stop at the Ramesseum, the memorial temple of King Ramses II. The Ramesseum is renowned for its 19-meter (62 feet) high seated statue weighing over 1000 tons of Ramses II (of which only fragments remain). The temple’s walls, which are about half preserved, are adorned with reliefs, including scenes of the Battle of Kadesh, the Syrian wars, and the Festival of Amon Min.
- Colossi of Memnon - Then, pause for photos at the Colossi of Memnon: two towering statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, which once stood at his now-vanished funerary temple. Listen to the stories and legends surrounding the statues, and examine the Roman-era graffiti etched into the stone.
- Karnak Open Air Museum - Drive to the East Bank to begin with the Temples of Karnak. As you travel, learn how Luxor stands on the 4,000-year-old site of Thebes, Egypt’s ancient royal capital, and how Karnak is the largest of its temple complexes. Discover how this vast collection of buildings was developed by over 30 pharaohs, including Amenhotep IV and Ramses II. Explore inside with your Egyptologist guide. Hear about the construction of the massive pylons at the entrance, and marvel at the courtyards and sanctuaries beyond. The deeper you venture into the complex, the further back in time you step, with the oldest ruins dating back over 3,000 years. Be amazed by the Hypostyle Hall, filled with 134 massive columns towering above like an ancient forest. Look up and learn about the ingenious methods used by the ancient Egyptians to raise them. See the sacred lake where pharaonic offerings were purified, and then enjoy free time to leisurely explore the site.
- Luxor Temple - Continue to Luxor Temple, an ancient temple in the heart of Luxor aligned parallel to the Nile. Learn about its construction around 1,400 BC, and how it was expanded by Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and even Alexander the Great. Admire the two colossal statues of Ramses at the entrance, and the granite gateway obelisk, whose original counterpart now stands in Paris’ Place de la Concorde. Then, head inside to marvel at the richly carved inner sanctuaries, papyrus columns, and courts. Peek inside the atmospheric anterooms, including the chapel dedicated to Alexander the Great, who rebuilt the room in his name.
