Muscat-Sinkhole-Fins Beach-Wadi Shab-Sur-Ras Al Hadd
Bimmah Sinkhole - The tour begins in Muscat in the morning, heading towards Ras Al Hadd. The first stop is the Bimmah Sinkhole, where swimming in the sinkhole lake is an option. Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, located in the limestone of the eastern Muscat Governorate in Oman. It features a lake with turquoise waters, measuring 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. Situated 600 m from the sea, between the coastal towns of Dibab and Bimmah village, the sinkhole was formed by the collapse of the surface layer due to the dissolution of the underlying limestone. To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality has developed a park around it.
Fins Beach - From the sinkhole, the tour proceeds to Fins Beach, also known as White Sands Beach. This location offers a panorama of strikingly white sands and an intriguingly pebbly beach, with sparkling turquoise waters and a soft, cool breeze.
Wadi Shab - From Fins Beach, the journey continues to Wadi Shab. This wadi is an enormous canyon gorge lined with palm trees and impressive evidence of the power of water descending from the mountains. After a 35 to 40-minute hike through the canyon (walking shoes or trainers and swimming shoes are required), visitors arrive at one of the crystal-clear water pools. Tourists can swim through the warm waters from pool to pool, eventually reaching the last pool where an opening among the enormous rocks allows swimming into an incredible crevice cave with a small waterfall inside. Sunlight filters in from the outside, turning the water into a beautiful turquoise blue while water showers down one side of the cave from the wadi beyond.
Sur - From Wadi Shab, the journey continues to Sur, where a city tour includes a visit to the Dhow Factory and old ships. The tour also explores the old part of Sur, where most houses feature wooden doors and windows.
Al Hadd - The tour proceeds to Ras Al Hadd, where guests check into their hotel or resort. In the evening, after dinner, a visit to the Turtle Sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz is planned. Here, a guided walking tour on the beach at night under the stars offers a high chance of seeing Oman’s great sea turtles coming ashore to build nests and lay eggs. If lucky, visitors might even witness baby turtles hatching from some nests.
Ras Al Hadd-Wadi Bani Khalid-Wahiba Sands
Wadi Bani Khalid - The day begins with a visit to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the largest and most beautiful wadis in Oman. After reaching Wadi Bani Khalid, a short walk of approximately 10 minutes (walking shoes are required) leads to sparkling water pools 9 meters deep, where visitors can swim, sunbathe, and relax in the scenic wadi canyons.
Wahiba Sands - In the afternoon, the journey continues to a desert camp in Wahiba Sands. This spectacular desert covers an area of 12,500 square kilometers, also known as Al Sharqiya Sands, formerly “The Wahiba Sands.” It is a desert region in Oman named after the Bani Wahiba tribe, divided between the northern and southern governorates in the Eastern Region. The area is defined by a boundary of 180 km north to south and 80 km east to west. Guests can relax in the camp or participate in an adventurous 4x4 drive in the sand dunes with an experienced tour guide, followed by watching the stunning sunset from one of the large sand dunes. The day concludes with a buffet dinner at the camp.
Wahiba Sands-Al Mudhaireb-Ibra-Zukait Tower Tombs-Nizwa
Ibra - From Al Mudhaireb, the tour visits the old part of Ibra, which is approximately 1000 years old. Built from mud and limestone, visitors can walk around the village, which is not completely abandoned as some people still reside there.
Zukait Tombs - From Ibra, the journey continues to the village of Zukait, where cylindrical tombs dating back to the third millennium BC are located on a hilltop in the Al Dakhiliyah region. These tombs are made of mountain rock stacked to create a distinctive beehive shape.
Nizwa - From Zukait, the journey continues to Nizwa, the old capital city of Oman. Arrival is in the late afternoon, and after hotel check-in, guests have free leisure time for the rest of the day.
Nizwa Market (Souq) Fort-Green Mountain-Birkat Al Moz-Nizwa
Nizwa Souk - In the morning, the tour visits Nizwa Souq, where a wide variety of vendors offer their goods in the streets. Visitors can find vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (halwa), dates, spices, and souvenirs sold in authentic old market halls. The Friday cattle market is especially interesting, as locals from nearby villages come to sell their cattle and chickens in a circus-style open marketplace.
Nizwa Fort Oman - Adjacent to the souq is Nizwa Fortress, now a museum offering splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore the impressive fortress, visiting its many rooms, passages, and towers. The fort is an architectural testament to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest attacks of the time, with many traps laid along the corridors to deter intruders.
Jebel Akhdar - From Nizwa, the tour drives to Jebel Akhdar, known as the “Green Mountain,” considered one of the most scenic areas in Oman. Part of the Al Hajar Mountain Range, Jebel Akhdar is named for the green terraced gardens surrounding the villages. A variety of fruits, such as pomegranates, apricots, apples, olives, grapes, roses, peaches, and walnuts, are grown here. Interesting walks are available in Wadi Bani Habib, Shrejah, Al Ain, and Al Aqur.
Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - From Jebel Akhdar, the tour visits Birkat Al Moz, which features a large falaj system supplying water to date palms and vegetables for many orchards. It is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage and cultural site, and it is worth spending time walking around the old part of the village.
Nizwa - From Birkat Al Moz, the tour returns to Nizwa for the night.
Nizwa-Jabreen Castle-Misfah Al Abriyeen-Al Hamra-Wadi Ghul (Wadi Nakhar)-Jabal Shams (Grand Canyon)
Jibreen Castle - The day begins with a drive up to Jebel Shams mountain, known as the Grand Canyon of Oman. On the way, a stop is made at Jabreen Castle, originally designed as a presidential palace in 1670 by Imam Balarab bin Sultan bin Saif of the Ya’arubi Dynasty. An extensive renovation was carried out in 1984. The interior includes various furniture and traditional utensils to provide visitors with a taste of the period castle lifestyle. The building itself is decorated with elaborate wood carvings, ceiling paintings, and stucco work.
Misfat al Abreyeen - The tour then proceeds to Misfah Al Abreyeen, a picturesque village on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams. It consists of old homes and narrow streets, with a falaj system for many orchards, date palms, and vegetables. It is worth spending time walking around the village before visiting the ancient village of Al Hamra.
Jabal Shams - From Wadi Nakhar, the tour begins the ascent to Jebel Shams mountain, the Grand Canyon of Oman, at 3009 meters. This mountain offers an adventurous off-road experience and fantastic views. Visitors reach the canyon view at 2000 meters, where they can stop to enjoy the view and take photos before continuing to the resort for the night.
Grand Canyon-Balad Sayt-Wadi Bani Auf-Nakhal Fort-Muscat
Bald Sayt - In the morning, the tour descends the mountain on the other side (east) into Wadi Bani Awf. This mountain road drive offers an exciting off-road experience and fantastic views into dramatic canyons and wadis, winding down several kilometers before connecting with Wadi Bani Awf. The tour passes several villages, with the most beautiful being Balad Sayt, surrounded by mountains in all directions. Upon reaching the valley (Wadi Bani Awf), the tour also passes impressive wadi canyons (Snake Canyon) as the road leads through the wadi, passing numerous small villages.
Nakhal Fort - From there, the journey continues to Nakhal, where visitors can explore the beautiful Nakhal Fortress. It lies at the foothills of the mountains in a charming small town with extensive date palm plantations. This magnificent 1500-year-old fortress rises out of the mountain rock, towering high above the ancient village as if still warning would-be attackers of its formidable strength. It has witnessed many battles and is packed with hidden escape routes and secret passages. Visitors can stroll around the inside of this restored fortress and visit all the rooms, which have been nicely decorated in the original old style. The view from the top of the fortress over the mountains and green date plantations is outstanding.
