• The Great Pyramid of Giza - Situated on the Giza plateau near Cairo, Egypt, the Pyramids of Giza consist of three ancient pyramids constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom period, around 4,500 years ago. These pyramids are named after the pharaohs who commissioned them: Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mycerinus).

Originally, the Pyramids of Giza were adorned with smooth white limestone, giving them a radiant, gleaming look. Over time, much of this limestone was removed for other construction projects, resulting in the pyramids’ current rugged, weathered appearance.

Nearby, the Sphinx stands as a statue of a mythical creature with a human head and a lion’s body. It is believed to have been constructed during Khafre’s reign and is thought to have been carved from a single block of limestone.
