As the largest and most renowned zoo in the region, it features transparent enclosures housing both native and exotic species, including the Arabian oryx, Barbary sheep, rhinos, hippos, tigers, lions, and more.
The zoo’s esteemed conservation and breeding program is dedicated to protecting and preserving rare species from extinction, featuring an engaging walk-through lemur experience. Visitors can enjoy ample green spaces for picnics, playgrounds, cafés, and restaurants. Additionally, a train tour is available to explore the wildlife area.
- Jebel Hafeet - For breathtaking sunrise and sunset photography, as well as stunning views of Abu Dhabi’s lush garden city of Al Ain, visit the summit of Jebel Hafit mountain (also known as Jebel Hafeet). Standing at 1,249 meters, this peak is Abu Dhabi’s highest and the UAE’s second tallest. The summit can be reached by car, motorbike, or bicycle for those with the endurance.
Guarding the borders of Oman, this Al Ain mountain has been shaped over millennia, with significant fossil discoveries contributing to the understanding of the city’s ancient history.
- Al Ain Oasis - Stroll through the shaded paths and reconnect with nature in the verdant Al Ain Oasis, a tranquil haven spanning 1,200 hectares in Al Ain’s ‘Green City.’
It’s easy to forget you’re in a desert. This stunning oasis is a visual delight and one of Al Ain’s most beautiful. Visitors can escape city life and admire 147,000 date palm trees, over 100 plant varieties, and historical relics like the ancient falaj irrigation system. The falaj is a vital part of the region’s heritage and a key reason Al Ain is a UNESCO Cultural Site.
- Al Jahili Fort - Since its opening in 2008, Al Jahili Fort, located about an hour and a half from Abu Dhabi in Al Ain’s lush garden city, has been a hub for activities related to Abu Dhabi’s philosophy, culture, and heritage. Built in the 1890s by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, also known as Zayed the First, it served as a residence for the ruling Al Nahyan family.
Constructed from sun-dried mud brick, the fort underwent initial restoration in 1985, followed by a major rehabilitation by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi between 2007 and 2008. Surrounded by a lush park, the captivating fort received the prestigious Terra Award for Internal Design and Layout in 2016.
- Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum - Originally the residence of the United Arab Emirates’ Ruling Family and the Ruler’s administrative center, Al Ain Palace Museum was built in 1937 and expanded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father, who lived there until 1966. It was renovated and transformed into a house museum in 2001. Architectural features typical of the Transition Period (1930s–60s) in Al Ain can still be observed at the palace.
