Surprise proposal with Akaroa stargazing - My partner and I had an amazing experience with Luca, Manon and the rest of the team at Akaroa stargazing. When I contacted them explaining how I wanted to propose to my now fiancée, they went above and beyond with their support and planning. Unfortunately the night we planned was very cloudy, and they offered a reschedule but we still decided to give it a go that night. Luca was very interactive with us and full of so much knowledge of the sky and space, which was very interesting to learn about. Then he took us to the perfect photo spot to give me the chance to propose, and the photos came out amazing, with the stunning lights of Akaroa behind us. He even gave us different backdrops for some nice couple photos as a souvenir of our special trip. And despite there unfortunately being no stars during the stargazing, as we were returning to our car, Luca pointed two stars that had come out from behind the clouds, and in some sign of fate, the constellation was called the Ring of the Maiden! What’re the odds! Thanks so much for all of your effort! And I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone coming to Akaroa. 1000/10. :)

Highlight of night experiences during our 5 weeks in New Zealand! - Perfect weather! Clear sky on a not too cool night. Pitch black except some light pollution from Christchurch in the low sky. It didn’t affect our gazing at all. We intentionally chose a time as far away from a full moon as possible due to our trip flexibility. Although that would have been good too. Luca shared his passion, great discussions on the sky/stars/planetary/constellations/zodiac constellations/galaxies. Why do we need light fixtures that light up areas we have no need of seeing? Waste of energy and environmentally harmful - we learned a lot! Picture file provided of our observations after the event with codes, if we want to view elsewhere with our own equipment - someday! Admission competitive. Group size perfect for everyone. Length ideal….crept quietly back into camp after 1:00 am.

Would repeat when back in Akaroa -- Highly Recommend. - Weather-wise, we had a good night -- reasonably cloud-free. Wonderful naked eye views of the Milky Way and the Southern Constellations. Several telescope sightings of various nebula, galaxy clusters, and Jupiter (bands were visible). Both Lucas and Manon extremely knowledge and gracious hosts. Luca helped me with some camera settings -- and the quality of the photos improved vastly. Info to use on my next stargazing adventure. Well worth the time and money! But dress warmly! My mistake was not wearing a good base layer.

A cloudy but lovely night - Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for our booking and it was very cloudy. However, we went along anyway and met our guide Gaspard who was very knowledgeable and friendly. All the participants enjoyed chatting about the universe and seeking out the few stars that were visible. We received a partial refund due to the fact that we didn’t get the full experience which was very fair. If you are driving from Christchurch I would suggest leaving nice and early to have dinner in Amaroa or even staying out on the Banks peninsula.

The Night Sky - Unfortunately we experienced a cloudy night so were unable to see a great deal. A partial refund was offered, as yet unsure how much. Our host was friendly and informative. We felt the price was excessive considering what we got out of the night. Be careful booking through trip advisor as the default currency advertised is in $US which makes it seem cheaper till final payment.
