Very professional agency - Very responsive and professional agency, the advice was relevant and adapted to our request. Very good knowledge of the place. Pleasant and comfortable yurts despite the temperatures and altitude. Welcome yurt managers very good. Meal quality/Award ratio that could be improved (in terms of either quantity or quality) Excellent overall organization, followed by the agency before and after our trip. We highly recommend! We will gladly return with Kyrgyz Life!!!

A useful service, but lots of areas to improve. - Kyrgyz Life runs a series of commercial yurts that support hikers doing the Ak Suu traverse. Overall, they do a decent job of providing meals, and if needed, accommodation, but there are lots of areas for improvement. Booking is excessively complicated. I did it through Destination Karakol (who were super helpful), but there are no standard forms or anything. I had to draw a table on a piece of paper to indicate which nights I wanted dinner, or a lunchbox, or breakfast. It’s hard to get any specific information about what will be provided. The main map/pamphlet is very vague about the actual location of the yurts (it’s not clear that the the Boz Uchuk lakes yurt is not next to the lake, but much lower down). None of the staff at any of the yurts spoke any English, except one person in Karakol Gorge. The pamphlet makes big promises about open-ended discussions about hiking with the yurt staff over cups of chai - but this is complete nonsense. They do not have interest in hiking, and couldn’t communicate about it anyway. (One night I stayed with a different company, Aziz, and the staff there did speak English and he gave me great suggestions for a day hike). The lunch boxes are not good. They are too small for a hiking appetite, and rely heavily on dried nuts and fruit. For this price I expected much better - especially since the yurts are re-supplied every day. The dinners were very variable. At Jyrgalan Camp it was the best meal I had in Kyrgyzstan, full of flavour and space. The next night, it was like a university student had put tuna on pasta. At one camp, the host had fresh baked bread which was incredible. One night, I was urged to sleep in the yurt (2500 som), instead of my tent, with no explanation. Then they reduced the price to 1000, and then finally they just told me (through another hiker’s guide) that I had no choice, I had to sleep in the yurt but it was free. No explanation of any kind. Sometimes the toilets had toilet paper, sometimes they didn’t. Small things like this can easily be improved. Generally I had the impression of staff who are very competent at living in the mountains, managing logistics etc, but don’t really have much understanding of what hikers want and need from yurts like this. One morning I asked if I could have my breakfast at 7am instead of 8am so I could get an early start, but was told no, with no sense of understanding. Overall, a useful service which is provided adequately, but could do a lot better.
