Basque hostel of your dreams - This place is the best! Vibes are immaculate, people are fun and they really make you feel at home. The package for meals and drinks was well-priced and worth it. Be prepared not to sleep and have the most insane time.

I miss it already!! - Super fun hostel and such a good value, the staff was amazing (shoutout to Izzy!!) and had events going on every day! Tucked away in the hills but they’re always shuttling back and forth. Great international group of travelers, met so many great people and would go back in a heartbeat!

Awesome hostel!!! - I went to the Surf House with friends during our road trip through Europe, and it was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere at the hostel was incredible, super fun and welcoming. The surfing was a great experience, even for a beginner like me, and the parties were absolutely awesome! I met so many great people and made amazing new friends :)

So welcoming - I stayed here for two nights & it was wonderful. Went surfing for the first time & had such a blast, then horseback riding in the park. All the employees were so friendly & made my stay here feel so homey. The house is in the mountains & not in the city centre, which I actually found I preferred with the immediate access to nature & the countryside; went on a peaceful hike right behind the house & had a blast (that's where the picture is from!).

The happiest place on earth… - Stoke was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Surf during the day, party at night with awesome like minded people from all over the world. The surfing was fun, food was really good and Briarly’s drinking games made for a good night. I’d go back in a heartbeat

Not what’s advertised: overcrowded, dirty, and unsafe - I had booked a full week at Stoke’s “San Sebastián Surf Camp” but could only stay one night before leaving. The photos online show a bright, clean surf house in San Sebastián. In reality, the camp is in Aia (not San Sebastián or Zarautz) and the house is dark, old, dirty and overcrowded. Around 70 people (guests + volunteers) share only 3 bathrooms, which makes even the most basic needs—sleep, shower, toilet—nearly impossible. The rooms smelled of sweat and dirt, and that night there was music and noise until 5 a.m.. Staff and guests told us this is the norm every night. If you want to rest, this is not the place. Surfing is presented as the highlight, but you only get one class included, and most instructors are unpaid volunteers with little accountability. On our first day they didn’t know our names or keep track of who was in the water. With old, broken boards and wetsuits, safety felt like an afterthought. For an extreme sport, that’s unacceptable. We raised concerns immediately and were told only 50% could be refunded. This feels like a scam when the experience is so far from what’s shown online. 👉 To be fair: Anna, the site manager, was kind and tried her best to help us. But the issue is systemic. It’s about how the service is marketed versus what’s actually delivered. ⚠️ Another important note: upon arrival, staff told us they could wash our clothes in exchange for a “good review.” This makes me question the origin and reliability of many of the positive reviews I read before booking. ⚠️ If you are looking for at least the basics—clean bathrooms, a place to sleep, and safe surfing instruction—this is not the place. The real conditions are very different from the pictures.
