Fantastic tour, great guide. We sampled some delicious local food and learned lots about the local culture
Genet was amazing and very knowledgeable. Our large group consisted of 7 kids including my own 2. We loved the tour and the food was delicious!! Absolutely will( and already have) recommended this to other traveling families!
We joined the Food Tour during our recent visit to Addis Ababa/Ethiopia. It was a really interesting and enjoyable experience involving 5 separate dining 'experiences' at local restaurants (we were the only tourists at all of them which was nice) all of which were quite different and great fun. The highlights were raw meat cubes at a local beef restaurant which was excellent and a really wonderful coffee ceremony to round off the tour at a little, local restaurant with the usual delicious home roasted Ethiopian coffee. All in all, highly recommended with a really helpful and knowledgeable guide.
Our guide, Gennet, gave us invaluable insight into the everyday life of Addis Ababa. Prior to meeting with her, we had been overwhelmed by the poverty and begging we saw in much of the city. Gennet showed us how the middle class lives and eats. In particular, she spent extra time with us at a local jebena buna bet, where we photographed the coffee ceremony for our book on worldwide coffee experiences.
Our guide was great, and it was a great variety of food.
Both informative and delightful
Fun and nformative -- a special introductory tour to experience Ethiopian cuisine, coffee, and culture. We loved it! It's perfect on arrival in Addis Ababa.
Was a great tour for someone who didn't know Ethiopia (my friend). My only advice/feedback is it would be nice to incorporate some tej tasting. Oh and the tilapia was not so tasty. :)
I'm very happy to see that food tours finally happening in this country with such a special world-class cuisine. Go Addis has a knack for picking good offbeat local spots. We were led by a very sweet schoolteacher-turned-guide named Genet. She gave full answers to my many questions about teff, injera, berbere, and the very real etiquette of communal eating Ethiopia-style. We sampled wines, fasting fare, giant fish, fresh fruit juice, and somehow made room for my favorite dish -- chequena tibs -- to top it all off. Come hungry!
