amazing food, kind hosts - Mahlet our guide, her grandma, and her cousin were all so welcoming. They picked us up punctually at the hotel and dropped us back. Mahlet taught us how to make shiro, yellow split peas, and my favourite - gomen. Grandma taught us how to make injera - but of course it was much harder than it looks ! We washed, roasted, and ground coffee. This coffee was paired with an aromatic herb called rue (Ruta graveolens) - which added a sweet and mellow dimension. I've never had coffee so fresh ! We also ate some incredible papaya, plums, and oranges. Thank you again for sharing your culture with us !

Fun and educational experience especially for families - It was such a fun, engaging and insightful experience learning about Ethiopian cuisine from Mahlet. She showed us, not just the culinary traditions of Ethiopia, but also shared so much insight into their culture. She was beaming with pride as she talked about everything from the nation's love for coffee to the various tribes around the country. My daughter had a great time making injera and so did I! We both really liked this experience and the best part of eating the fruits of our labor at the end of it. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in delving a little deeper into the Ethiopian culture.

Cooking class with the BEST! - I had a phenomenal experience! I ended up having a private class which was such a pleasant surprise. I learned how to make injera, chickpea stew, collard stew, roasted coffee and even got to taste some home brewed honey wine. Highly recommended stopping by and perfect for an Addis stopover. I can’t wait to return!

Cooking lesson and lunch in Addis Ababa - This was a very nice experience. We were picked up promptly at our hotel as agreed. Our guides, Oli and Abraham were super nice and communicated very clearly with us before the tour. Prior to the cooking lesson they took us to the market to show us where the produce and spices came from. The class was fun and easy. We got a terrific introduction to Ethiopian cuisine. If you have a free morning or open afternoon, I highly recommend this cooking class.

So much more than cooking - a delve into the home life of Addis Ababa residents - Having been let down at 7am on the day of a tour by another provider, I signed up to do a cooking class. This was so worthwhile. It is not simply about just the food, you get a glimpse into the life and living of the inhabitants of Addis. Liyu Ethiopia Tours were excellent hosts. I was collected from my hotel at 10am, communication was excellent. A young gentleman called Oli collected me from my hotel with a driver. For young man his knowledge of food, ingredients and Ethiopian food was extraordinary, and really added to my experience. In summary a tour round Sola market to walk through the food quarter, which is really insightful and then to his family home for a simply brilliant time learning how to cook with the ingredients we had just purchased. The watchful of Gran was a real bonus too. I cannot speak too highly of this. Book this tour for a real experience above and beyond cooking.
