Mago National Park - Begin the day with a flight to Jinka. Upon arrival, drive to Turmi, the home of the Hamer people. The Hamer, or Hamar, are an Omotic community residing in southwestern Ethiopia, east of the Omo River, with villages in Turmi and Dimeka. According to the 2007 national census, this ethnic group comprises 46,532 individuals, including 957 urban residents. They are renowned for their body adornment and vibrant beadwork. Women wear heavy, polished iron jewelry around their necks. Hamer men are reputed to be less affectionate husbands. The women proudly endure ritual floggings, displaying deep scars as symbols of devotion to their spouses. En route, visit the Bana village.
Turmi to Omorate
Omorate - In the morning, embark on an excursion to visit the Dassanech ethnic group (70 km, one way), known for their nomadic lifestyle and fascinating body decoration and scarification. Enjoy stunning views of the Omo River while crossing it in a dugout canoe.
Turmi is famous for its traditional events, and with some luck, you might witness a Hamer marriage ceremony, complete with a bull-jumping event and more! The afternoon excursion may be canceled if a bull-jumping ceremony is taking place, as it is a must-see event.
In the late afternoon, drive to Jinka for an overnight stay.
