Upon checking in at the starting location, participants will proceed towards Etna. They will traverse paths untouched by mass tourism, allowing them to appreciate the local flora and fauna. The tour will emphasize various aspects of the volcano, including its natural features, resources, breathtaking landscapes, and the remarkable lava flows that have destroyed roads and buildings. The first stop is Milo, a quaint town within the Etna park, offering views of the Ionian coast with Taormina and the volcano’s summit. On the north-east side of Mount Etna, visitors will explore the Sartorius Mountains, which consist of seven dormant craters from the 1865 eruption. After a brief pause at a typical Etna refuge, equipped with helmets and torches, participants will visit the “Grotta dei Ladroni,” a small lava flow tunnel that opens into a prehistoric flow. The tour concludes in Zafferana Etnea with a tasting of local specialties, including honey, wine, and liqueurs.
