Top Notch Ghanaian History and Hospitality - Despite the 6am departure time, the roads were full of life! My daughter and I were forewarned of the length of the drive and a segment of bumpy roads but that was simply a part of the authentic Ghanaian road trip experience. Kwame had to leave us before reaching Kakum due to the funeral services of a family friend, but he left us in the capacity hands of Daniel and Hansa. It took us over four hours to each Kakum, but it was worth it! The guided hike up was moderately strenuous, but you were greeted with forest speak and an amazing view at the top. The guide was knowledgeable, engaged, and emphasized protocols in place to ensure the safety of the bridge. Walking suspended over the rain forest floor was breathtaking! On to Elmina... Once you passed the persistent street vendors, you step into a vast complex holding within its bricks history and horror. Again, the tour guide was knowledgeable, engaged and respectful. Lunch onsite was tasty. I opted for the Ghanaian dish of red red and plantains (Amazing!). My daughter has pizza. Our final stop was the Cape Coast Castle and the Door of No Return. Once again, the guide was engaging and knowledgeable. Thanks to Daniel and Hansa for taking care of us the entire day, getting us back to the hotel safely, sharing your world perspectives, your music, hospitality, and enthusiasm for your country!

Memorable Day Trip - Highly recommend this day trip to the Cape Coast. The drive is long, but the canopy walk in the Kakum National Park is an exhilarating chance to see the rainforest from tree-eye level. The castles of the Cape Coast are an education, stark testaments to a terrible history. Don’t miss the opportunity to get to know the guides and talk with them not just about the sights but about language, food (I chatted with them about Accra night markets, Arctic exploration, and music management). They are fun and friendly hosts to this wonderful country.

Highly Recommend – Great Tour and Fantastic Driver - I booked a tour to Cape Coast and Elmina Castle, along with Kakum National Park, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. The history and culture at the castles were powerful and moving, and the canopy walk at Kakum was breathtaking. What really made the trip stand out was our personal driver. Gershon was professional, friendly, and incredibly accommodating throughout the day. He made the journey comfortable, safe, and enjoyable, which allowed us to relax and fully take in the experience. Overall, it was a fantastic tour that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Ghana!

- This tour was deeply moving and transformative—especially as an African American family. Traveling with our two teenage daughters, we wanted them not just to see the beauty of Ghana, but to feel the weight of our shared history. This tour is more than sightseeing—it's a pilgrimage. We’ll carry the memories and lessons from this day with us for a lifetime. Another huge thanks to our guide, Clinton for outstanding service. Highly recommend.
Cape Coast Castle was a solemn and emotional experience. Walking through the dungeons where our ancestors were held, standing at the "Door of No Return," and hearing the stories of resistance and survival—it was powerful beyond words. Our guide did an excellent job grounding the history in truth and dignity. It gave our daughters an understanding that no classroom or textbook could provide.
Elmina Castle was just as impactful. The town itself is vibrant and alive, and the contrast between its daily rhythms and the heavy past held within the castle walls was striking. We appreciated how the guide helped us navigate that emotional terrain, honoring the pain while also showing the strength of the people who lived through it.
Kakum National Park gave us a moment of lightness and connection with nature. The canopy walk was exhilarating—our daughters loved every second of it. Being suspended above the rainforest, surrounded by beauty, felt like a celebration of life and resilience.
A Note About the Journey:
The drive was long and we encountered major delays due to construction on the N1 Highway. While frustrating, we understand that this is part of a large-scale infrastructure upgrade. Still, we encourage future travelers to build in extra time and patience for the road.

A packed day with a great guide - I did this trip with a friend/colleague in September 2023 (not 2024). We were on a business trip and had a weekend free. This trip was amazing! It was a long day and packed with the two main stops.. National Park rain forest canopy walk and Cape Coast castle. I would not recommend to try more than this in one day if you are leaving from Accra. In fact if you have more time than a weekend, I would even suggest a full day at each, and particularly Cape Coast if you are a history buff. It can be an emotional experience ( it was intense for me) .. but still quite important part of history to remember. In 2023, segments of the road from Accra were a little bumpy and in some cases heavily trafficked..it is just something to be prepared for. The best part was our guide…he was well prepared, quite knowledgeable and very pleasant!

Going to guarantee a good time in Ghana - Even before we started, there was great communication about availability, time of pick up, drop off, thoughts and recommendations as to what was most important to us, and of course pricing. We left the streets of Accra listening to afrobeats, comfortably cruising to Kakum National Park. The views are remarkable and bridges weren't as scary as I predicted. From there we went to Elmira Castle where our professional guide became our buffer zone; providing us with quiet moments to soak in the history of this location. The final stop on the cape coast is well known for the Presidential visit. Again, our guide took the time to allow the gravity of the location sink in without making us feel rushed, unfazed by other -larger- tour groups around us. And frankly, the sites deserve the respect which a smaller group appreciates; going at a natural pace instead of sticking to some schedule. In short, the entire experience was professional -from hotel pick up to drop off. I don't normally write recommendations but in this case, the effort and communication were top notch and a positive review was the very least I could do. When I return to Ghana I will be reaching out to Kwame Tours - I trust you will too

Powerful sites to visit, wrong tour company - The castle visits were powerful and a “must do” when visiting Ghana. However, the day lasted from 5:30am to 6pm and they make no accommodations for any kind of food. The ad for the trip fraudulently states there’s lunch. That entire stop doesn’t exist. We had to beg to go to a store to buy ourselves crackers. Also the driving was beyond dangerous and reckless. I strongly encourage people to visit these historical sites, but suggest strong caution before using this company doing so.
