Through my own ignorance I failed to realize that this course was going to include an actual jump, and had little time to mentally prepare myself for it. Through the help of the very empathetic, direct, and confident staff I was able to proceed with minimal fear. . . initially.
The course was understandably rushed due to inclement weather, and an unforeseeable amount of time before it would start raining. In that regard, the course still maintained a very adamant position on the students understanding and ability to actively troubleshoot potential issues that may arise. In other words, in no way were the potential safety risks, or the manner in which to actively address them, downplayed. Basing a final decision on when and how to proceed through the course by the feedback of the students I believe optimizes the experience and makes the students aware of themselves in terms of their own understanding of the material. It made me feel more comfortable being given feedback on the things I felt I understood, as well as that which I didn't. The instructor worked with me in a way that undoubtedly encouraged my own confidence and success.
The jump was a whole other experience. Having never departed out of anything airborne, and being expected to do so after such a short amount of time digesting that realization, genuinely filled me with terror. Add on the responsibility of pulling my own shoot, then parachuting to the ground, and you have yourself a student that believes he just might die. I have never been so scared in my life. After stepping out of the plane, I was overwhelmed with the lack of visibility and sudden increase in wind volume. Not being able to see the ground for what seemed like way too long, threw me off severely. Once we broke free of the clouds, I was able to regain what little composer I could muster and mildly adjust my body position as directed. It was by no means a great jump or performance on my part, but the two instructors on either side of me provided me enough clarity and confidence to keep my fears as low as they could be and pull when I needed to.
After landing and meeting up with them again we went over what I did right and what I could improve on, followed by convincing me to jump again. The second jump went a lot better mentally, and I was cleared for the next technical jump after some very helpful coaching from staff.
I look forward to continuing jumping and learning the art of diving. The atmosphere of Kapowsin's is truly one of a kind, and I can't wait to jump with you all again!
You all took very good care of my daughter on her first jump. We LOVE the video; well done!
(1) the gentle lady is very nice and responsible for everything;
(2) the jumpmaster is very nice and check the safety before jumping;
(3) the class instructor is very patient and nice to explain everything
I felt the instructor took the time to make sure everyone in the class had thorough knowledge on what to do for most emergencies. It made for a more relaxing, versus anxious, experience.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very accommodating of scheduling changes due to weather.
Taking the AFF class felt like a big step up from doing a tandem jump. I was scared to jump, but my instructors had a lot of faith in me and it ended up being a great day. I'm really glad I decided to take the class. Can't wait to go back and jump again :)
I thought the curriculum was very comprehensive, the different types of emergencies that could happen were covered very well. Our teacher, John, had a very relaxed and comfortable way of teaching that kept us all engaged in the content and excited to go out and jump. At no point did I feel pressured into doing anything or reluctant to jump. After landing I got effective feedback and ended up jumping again later that day!
Everyone was very friendly! I felt safe at all times, and if I had any questions someone was always available to help me.
Very informative, very patient, excellent course. Recommending to all my friends! Well worth the money!
Everyone, from the owners, instructors, coaches, and other jumpers were extremely kind, and patient. The class that Kat taught was informative and helpful (she was far more patient with some of those students than I would’ve been). One of the best experiences of my life! Thank you so much.
Had an amazing time and it was easy to see the staff loves what they do.cant wait to continue!!!!!
I was getting current after a 6 year layoff, and therefore attended the AFF First Jump Course. It was excellent, it covered everything that I needed to know (including a lot that I had forgotten) to get back in the sky. Both the classroom instructor and the free fall instructor were awesome.
The course was well-structured and informative, and the instructors were very nice and provided helpful information and advice on what I need to do to continue and progress in the AFF course.
I had a great time and the people at Kapowsin are nice and helpful. I had a great jump with the exception of my eye protection not being tight enough causing me to lose focus on the free fall and worry about my eye glasses rather than the things I was supposed to be doing. I plan on going back and will use older eye glasses and really tight eye protection to prevent that happening again.
I’ve done 2 tandem jumps and most recently started the AFF corse here at skydive kapowsin. This place has such a friendly and welcoming environment compared to the other places I have jumped. Definitely worth giving them your business even if it means driving a little farther, you won’t be disappointed I assure you that.
Everyone was professional and very fun cant wait to come again
I initially scheduled my AFF Level1 course for Saturday morning. Even though the class was a large, Zack was thorough in his teachings. When it came time to exit the aircraft, all the things I had been taught clicked and made me feel safe, even though I was hurling toward the earth at terminal velocity. After some more ground schooling from both Andy and Kasha, I was able to also pass my Level 2 later that afternoon. My canopy piloting skills still suck, but that's my fault.
Another great weekend spent at Kapowsin! I'm looking forward to many more!
I loved it. The class was long but felt prepared when I got to the plane. It was a great experience. So good that as soon as I landed I went and paid for another jump. Plan on going back here soon.
I had an amazing time. The instructors were incredible. Totally supportive and having reviewed the skills needed on the ground, I felt confident when I was up in the plane and in the air.
The instructors and all other people associated with Kapowsin Air were very nice, helpful, and enthusiastic about helping all of us new jumpers from start to finish.
Took my son here for his 18th birthday for the AFF class and 1st jump. He loved it.
All the employees made it seem like a family-run place, having lots of fun amongst themselves and all the customers there that day, including new people like my son and the regulars.
I had a great time at my AFF course and jumps! Matthew was my instructor and explained all of the material well. Jan, Dennis, and Austin helped me on my jumps with form and made me feel at ease. I’m excited to be back to complete my jumps!
I have wanted to go skydiving for a while and I finally did it!! I did 2 jumps and it was a ton of fun. on my 2nd jump, I accidentally flipped upside down and my instructor helped right me, when we landed he explained to me how I did and explained what went wrong. overall I am very happy with my experience and I plan on returning to do more jumps in the future!
Excellent instructors, they are all very helpful and give good feedback.
Great instructors and equipment. Everyone had something informative to share. Good personal attention. Phenomenal views!
The safety course was excellent and prepared me exceptionally well. The instructors on the jump were very careful checking my equipment as needed and provided very helpful discussion afterwards. I would recommend Skydive Kapowsin for everyone wanting to have AFF training.
Professional service and friendly staff. Also made me feel comfortable about jumping for the first time.
Amazing staff! Very informational and helpful! I had the time of my life and ended up going back up for my level 2 aff jump as soon as I landed my first jump! Going back this coming weekend!
I had the most helpful and nicest instructors. This place is by fare the best place to jump in the west coast. The two instructors I jumped with helped me out so much. Very cool people to jump with. Everyone was super friendly. Safety is number 1 and the equipment was top of the line. I’ll be going back very soon.
Excellent instructor and staff and a clear indication by the company in general of total competency within the realm of skydiving and aviation.
Everything from the facilities to the staff was amazing! Some of the best people I’ve had the pleasure to meet, learn from and hang out with. Our instructors Rachel and Jacob were really fun and super helpful teachers. Can’t wait to take the next jump!
My boyfriend and I have both done a couple tandem dives and decided it was time to take the class and learn how to pull the chute ourselves. From the moment we walked through the door we felt at home here. We saw nothing but smiling faces, all equally excited about our first jump as we were. The class was thorough and very informative. We covered all gear operations, and emergency procedures which helped us both better understand the dive, and ease our nerves. The jump itself was incredible! Our instructors were lighthearted joksters, but when it came down to business I never had any doubts about trusting them with my life. During the free fall they used hand signals to communicate, and helped me position my body correctly. They talked me through the landing on a walkie talkie, and when we touched down again they walked us through every step of the dive, giving us really thorough coaching and showing us tips on how to make the next dive even better!
We are both hooked on diving, and Skydive Kapowsin. We can't wait to come back and get our licenses!
I took the AFF class and was very impressed by the level of care the instructors have in insuring I was prepared for my first jump. Everyone there was very warm and inviting and always very helpful.
The class was very informative and helpful when it came time to apply it in the air. This was the most life changing experience I have ever had and the Kapowsin team made sure I was safe. The only thing that I had complications with was radio comms while under the canopy. I couldn't here much either because of the wind noise or old batteries in the radio.
Everyone was great. I was made to feel very welcome.
Loved the family atmosphere. The class was very well put together and loved that everyone was willing to help. See you soon!!!
Besides it being too windy for the first jump, the class was great. I will be talking more people into doing it at Kapowsin for sure!
