Through my own ignorance I failed to realize that this course was going to include an actual jump, and had little time to mentally prepare myself for it. Through the help of the very empathetic, direct, and confident staff I was able to proceed with minimal fear. . . initially. The course was understandably rushed due to inclement weather, and an unforeseeable amount of time before it would start raining. In that regard, the course still maintained a very adamant position on the students understanding and ability to actively troubleshoot potential issues that may arise. In other words, in no way were the potential safety risks, or the manner in which to actively address them, downplayed. Basing a final decision on when and how to proceed through the course by the feedback of the students I believe optimizes the experience and makes the students aware of themselves in terms of their own understanding of the material. It made me feel more comfortable being given feedback on the things I felt I understood, as well as that which I didn't. The instructor worked with me in a way that undoubtedly encouraged my own confidence and success. The jump was a whole other experience. Having never departed out of anything airborne, and being expected to do so after such a short amount of time digesting that realization, genuinely filled me with terror. Add on the responsibility of pulling my own shoot, then parachuting to the ground, and you have yourself a student that believes he just might die. I have never been so scared in my life. After stepping out of the plane, I was overwhelmed with the lack of visibility and sudden increase in wind volume. Not being able to see the ground for what seemed like way too long, threw me off severely. Once we broke free of the clouds, I was able to regain what little composer I could muster and mildly adjust my body position as directed. It was by no means a great jump or performance on my part, but the two instructors on either side of me provided me enough clarity and confidence to keep my fears as low as they could be and pull when I needed to. After landing and meeting up with them again we went over what I did right and what I could improve on, followed by convincing me to jump again. The second jump went a lot better mentally, and I was cleared for the next technical jump after some very helpful coaching from staff. I look forward to continuing jumping and learning the art of diving. The atmosphere of Kapowsin's is truly one of a kind, and I can't wait to jump with you all again!

Both my instructors were very helpful and took their time to ensure I was learning and making progress! Definitely very satisfied with my first 2 jumps. I couldn’t commend them more! I’m glad I ended up in Kapowsin for my AFF course.

Anyone who wants to learn how to Skydive through the AFF course. Would highly recommended Kapowsin for the class portion and jump side. From the start to end they make you feel at home and while the class is lengthy. They make it fun the whole time and it’s over before you know it.
