The two Temples of Abu Simbel, renowned for their distinctive style, are considered masterpieces of ancient Egypt. They showcase the splendor and magnificence of the New Kingdom. To preserve these temples from flooding, the Egyptian government collaborated with UNESCO. The Temple of Ramses II is dedicated to the four universal gods: Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Re, and Ramses II himself. This grand temple is also known as The Sun Temple of Ramses II. The Temple of Queen Nefertari is also referred to as the Temple of Hathor, who was the wife of the Sun God. Symbolically, the two temples unite Ramses II, Nefertari, Hathor, and the Sun God. Visitors will spend about 3 hours exploring before returning to Aswan.
- Temple of Philae - The monuments of Philae feature numerous structures primarily from the Ptolemaic Period (332–30 BC). The most notable is a temple initiated by Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285–246 BC), dedicated to Isis, the mother of Horus, the god of kingship. In the mammisi, or birth room, a scene depicts Isis nursing her son Horus in the marshes, celebrating his birth.
The Temple of Isis was among the last ancient Egyptian temples to remain in use, continuing until the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I (527–565 AD), who ordered the closure of all pagan temples. It was here that a priest of Isis named Esmet-Akhom carved the last dated hieroglyphic inscription, dating to the late 4th century AD (394 AD). The temple was later converted into a Christian church, with many inscriptions intentionally destroyed.
After the tour concludes, guests will be transferred back to their hotel.
