Journey to the Heart of the Desert

The allure of Egypt’s deserts has always been a siren call for those of us who seek the thrill of the unknown. As a wildlife photographer, I’ve spent countless hours in the African savannah, but the promise of the Bahariya Oasis and the White Desert was a new frontier. The journey began with a four-hour drive from Cairo, a city bustling with life, to the tranquil Bahariya Oasis. The transition from urban chaos to serene desert was almost poetic. Our guide, a local with an encyclopedic knowledge of the region, shared stories of the oasis’s history and its significance as a habitat for diverse wildlife.

Upon arrival, the oasis greeted us with its lush palm groves and the soothing sound of a natural hot spring. It was a stark contrast to the arid landscape that surrounded it. As the sun began its descent, we made our way to the White Desert National Park. The landscape here is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The following morning, we visited the Valley of Agabat, home to the rare Crystal Mountain.
