- Pyramids of Giza - The Giza Pyramid Complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. This site features the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their respective pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The area also includes several cemeteries and the remnants of a workers’ village.
Situated at the edge of the Western Desert, the site is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of the Nile River in Giza and about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of Cairo’s city center.
The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids built in ancient Egypt and have long been iconic symbols of Ancient Egypt in Western culture. They gained fame during Hellenistic times when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, being the oldest among them.
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza, often called the Sphinx of Giza or simply the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature. It faces directly from west to east and is located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre.
Carved from the bedrock, the original form of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of limestone blocks. It measures 73 meters (240 feet) in length from paw to tail, 20 meters (66 feet) in height from the base to the top of the head, and 19 meters (62 feet) in width at its rear haunches. It is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the most recognizable statues worldwide. Archaeological evidence indicates it was created by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during Khafre’s reign (c. 2558–2532 BC).
- The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly referred to as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, is located in Cairo, Egypt, and houses a vast collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It contains 120,000 items, with a significant portion on display and the rest stored. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian company Garozzo-Zaffarani, based on a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the building is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum was open to the public. In 2021, it is set to be replaced by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
- Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili is a renowned bazaar and souq (or souk) located in the historic center of Cairo, Egypt. Established as a trade hub during the Mamluk era and named after one of its historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has become a major attraction for both tourists and locals. It is also home to numerous Egyptian artisans and workshops that produce traditional crafts and souvenirs.
