El Alamein War Museum - At 6:00 am, guests are picked up from their hotel in Cairo by an expert tour guide and transported to the western side of Egypt in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Leaving Cairo behind, the journey leads to Alamein, where visitors explore the WWII Museum and the War Memorial. The museum showcases uniforms, weapons, flags, and other war memorabilia, including photographs and battle site displays.
El Alamein War Cemetery - The tour continues with a visit to the El Alamein War Cemetery, where 7,367 soldiers from Britain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Greece, France, India, and Malaysia are laid to rest in individual graves. Additionally, 11,945 soldiers whose bodies were never found are commemorated. The tour also includes visits to the German War Memorial and the Italian Memorial. A light lunch is provided en route.
Siwa Lake - Upon arrival in Siwa, guests can enjoy the sunset at Fatnas Lake, a small island in Birket Siwa. This is a perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning sunset views, with Gebel Bayda and Hamra forming a picturesque backdrop to the west. Dinner and an overnight stay are arranged at a hotel in Siwa.
Siwa
Temple of the Oracle of Amun / Aghurmi - This remarkable temple, built during the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty, thrived during Greek and Roman times. Situated atop a mountain, the temple ruins are accessible via a well-marked path. According to legend, the temple was constructed in honor of Ham, Noah’s son, by Danaus the Egyptian. Another legend attributes its foundation to the Greek god Dionysus, who, while lost in the western desert, was guided to the spring of Agroumi by a ram. In gratitude, Dionysus erected the temple. Oracles, manifestations of God, were highly esteemed in ancient times and were regularly consulted before making significant decisions.
Lake Siwa - Next, guests visit the salty lake, where the buoyant water allows for effortless floating. Swimmers should be cautious to avoid getting water in their eyes. The crystal-clear lake is the purest, evident by its visible bottom. It’s advisable to keep a bottle of water handy for rinsing off after swimming. The lakes possess remarkable healing properties, far superior to regular seawater, ensuring a delightful swimming experience.
Cleopatra’s Pool - Spring of Juba - The tour proceeds to Cleopatra’s Bath, also known as the Spring of the Sun. Legend has it that Cleopatra herself swam here. A lunch break offers the opportunity to savor Siwan cuisine at a local restaurant.
Great Sand Sea - The adventure continues to the Great Sand Sea, where guests can enjoy sandboarding in a Jeep 4x4. This area boasts the best sand dunes for sandboarding in Egypt, located near the Siwa Oasis. The tour also includes a visit to the hot and cold spring Bir Waheed, followed by traditional Bedouin tea at sunset. The day concludes with setting up camp, dinner, and an overnight stay at a hotel in Siwa.
Siwa, Marsa Matrouh, and Cairo
Shali Fortress - After breakfast at the hotel or camp, guests visit Shali Fort, built on a hill within a protective wall. The fortress, a maze of mud-brick buildings, served the oasis inhabitants for nearly eight centuries. Residents lived in close quarters, sharing space with their animals, which were herded into the fortress each evening.
Mountain of the Dead - The tour proceeds to the Mountain of the Dead, a conical mountain just over a kilometer north of Shali. Tombs from the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods are carved into the mountain’s side. Four notable tombs at Gebel Al Mawta are must-sees, with the Si Amun Tomb being the most exquisite.
Cairo - The journey concludes with a return to Cairo, stopping for lunch along the Marsa Matrouh North Coast of Egypt.
