It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction company Garozzo-Zaffarani to a design by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the edifice is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum is open to the public. In 2020 the museum is due to be superseded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.

Our guide was... - Our guide was knowledgeable and kind. He helped a lady having difficulty with the stairs. He was sure to make us comfortable. We went everywhere we needed for souvenirs. His English was great. His history was amazing. Highest recommendation!

Old Egypt Chronicles - We had a good time. Mr. Sayed Mahmoud was funny and a good tour guide. He was knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. Mr. Adel (our driver) was always on time to pick us up and opened our doors with a smile. Both gentlemen were nice and we felt comfortable being with them. Overall, we were happy with the tour.

Excellent! - Booked this tour as a solo traveling American female- wow I had a fabulous time! My tour guide Zeinab was on time, she had very good English and we saw all the sites. We went to so many places and it was a wonderful day in and around downtown Cairo! I highly recommend this tour as Cairo is amazing! We had a personal driver and a car which was super helpful and lots of AC too which made it very comfortable. I could not have done this on my own. Thank you EMO yours for the most wonderful day and being with me every step of the way!

today guide is knowledgeable and attentive. Car is clean and comfortable - I have a very meaningful and wonderful guide today visiting museum & Coptic Cairo. As a female solo traveler, safety is my concern, and my local guide Hassan(I hope I get his name right) is walking with me all the way through, making sure I am safe & sound and enjoying the museum & churches visiting. He is simply knowledgeable and comprehensive in explaining the Egyptian civilization & heritage, he tells me every story and history behind in each spots. His English is very fluent without Arabic accents which makes me very easy to communicate with him. in museums, he introduce every history and story of those Egyptian exhibits, then he gave me " me time" to take pictures and footage. At some "photo-spots", he takes the initiative to take picture for me. This is so helpful for a solo traveler. At the end of the tour, he walks with me to my hotel making sure I am safe arriving at dropoff place as promised. The tour include lunch that he brings me to authentic Egyptian cuisine which is delicious. He even teach me the bargaining technique while walking in Bazzar. and of course, thanks for the Emo Tours Egypt that has arranged a comfortable and clean vehicale in today's trip, the driver arrives in no time getting me on board once after every places of visit.

Coptic, Old Cairo Museum, Papyrus and Essence and perfume shopping. - For a good experience, the perfume and papyrus shopping depends on sizes of vials and bottles and paper you select because once in the USA, the max is 100ml. Yet they stamp and give a tourist license certificate. I hope my chakra essences go through and the size of the papyrus rolls isn't an issue.
The guide took paper money from my hand and handed it to the waiter, whom was showing me the calculator in Egyptian pounds, I was paying and he and I were making change and such. It was very rude to swipe 200 Egyptian pounds ($40) for a bottle of water and a mango juice when at a buffet experiencing local waiters.
The guide answered all my questions, the driver got us everywhere necessary.
