• Afentis Christos - The small island of Afentis Christos was absent from a 1618 map. It emerged in 1650 following the eruption of the Thira volcano, accompanied by seismic tremors and tidal waves. At the time the church was constructed, the island had not yet formed. Instead, there was a rocky area that created a small promontory, which housed a barracks and a Venetian outpost.
