Highlights
  • The Battle of Long Tan - This full-day private tour, which can be tailored to ex-GIs and ex-diggers who fought on the battlefields in the Vietnam War, takes you to your choice of sites where you’ll meet people who either survived the war or came of age in the postwar years. Whether you’re an American or Aussie veteran, or a history buff with an interest in war sites and artifacts, youu2019ll see Vietnam as it is today.
Visit Long Tan and Nui Dat, key sites of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corpsu2019 involvement in the Vietnam War, or opt for a tour of Bien Hoa and Long Binh, which were both major bases used by the US Army.
Option 1: Long Tan and Nui Dat Task Force Base After hotel pickup in Ho Chi Minh CIty, your first stop on this full-day private tour is the former site of Australiau2019s Nui Dat Task Force Base (Nui Dat SAS Hill).

Because the ANZAC occupation of Nui Dat required the removal of all inhabitants from within a 2.5-mile (4-km) radius of the base, the people of Long Tan and Long Phuoc villages were forcibly resettled. In the late afternoon of August 18, 1966, D Company, 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment u2014 despite being heavily outnumbered u2014 fought off a large Viet Cong assault of regimental strength during a grueling 3-hour battle.

Little remains of this military camp today except the columns of the main gate. Your guide will show you the former runway, now a street in the local village, and the old helipad, which now functions as a soccer field.
Afterward, drive past the location of Horseshoe Fire Support Base (access is not permitted due to the continued presence of land mines) to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation.
Visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a focal point for remembrance, before continuing on to the Long Phuoc Tunnels. Like other tunnel systems found in Vietnam, Long Phuoc included meeting areas, first aid stations and fighting pits underground.
Hear fascinating commentary from your guide as you explore each site and drive to Ba Ria for lunch before returning to Ho Chi Minh City, with drop-off at your hotel.

Excellent experience - Tony is a real character, and wove his own story into the day which made this a special experience. Here’s to you, Sgt Tony. Time to reflect on our own at Long Tan was very important and we appreciated the space Tony gave us to do this.

Long Tan, Nui Dat - The trip is fairly long, but it was worth it. Definitely need a tour guide as the road is not marked. Our tour guide Mr Tony (Sgt) served with the US ARMY as a translator, which made it more interesting.

Great for history buffs - Very interesting visit to Long Binh and Bien Hoa. It was great to have a Veteran like Sergeant Dao “Tony” to give his perspective on the areas during and after the war. Thanks!

Awesome private tour with our guide Tony - Awesome private tour with our guide Tony (and private car and driver). A late family member served in the Viet Nam war as part of 161 Battery and so this site is of much personal significance. We really appreciated his knowledge, stories and first hand experience. This was his first Long Tan tour since the pandemic and would highly recommend.

Tour guide, Tony, was quite a... -
Tour guide, Tony, was quite a character. He told us he was a 71 year old veteran of the South Vietnam Army who acted ac an interpreter for the Australian Army. Spoke decent English. Was very knowledgeable about the ANZAC site. When he found out I was a US Army Vietnam War veteran and wanted to visit our base camp at Bien Hoa, he took us there. We had a good day with Tony.

Sergeant Tony is the man - It was just the three of us for our tour to Long Tan and the Australian sites around Nui Dat. We had Tony, a lovely but eccentric 73 old that was a translator for the US army and worked directly with the Australians during the war. He was very knowledgeable and took us from site to site. Tony is lovely but very full on and I think his tour style enjoys a larger group, however, we grew to enjoy our time together as we fell into a rhythm and his catch phrase of “Same same but different” will last with us for a while. We felt a great sense of sympathy for Tony who talked about the fate of his friend that died at Long Tan. He bought flowers, laying them at the cross and we held a minute silence. The great thing about Tony’s tour is that he knew a lot of sites that are off the beaten track and managed to get us access to places that ordinarily you wouldn’t. Water is provided and Tony has a very good reputation with Aus Vets with testimonials. There really isn’t much left of Australia’s involvement in the war but what there is, Tony will show you. He was also very generous buying us all coffee at the memory cafe over interesting conversation. Thanks Tony!

Interesting - I did enjoyed the tour. Good organization, all on time. I would strongly recommend for "history lovers". For ones with sensitive psychology and good imagination - please, stay away... might be too much...

This tour seems only suited for... -
This tour seems only suited for veterans. I didn't learn much about the war and didn't see half of the sites that were listed on the tour description. At the end of the tour, I wondered why I spent 6 hours driving time to see the few items that we saw. I learned more about the war at the war museum and wished I would have skipped this tour.
