Highlights
  • The Battle of Long Tan - Our tour begins with an early morning departure from Ho Chi Minh City, where you’ll be picked up by our knowledgeable and friendly guide at 8 am. As we drive through the picturesque countryside, our guide will provide you with valuable insights into the historical context of the Vietnam War and the significance of the Long Tan Battle.
After there, proceed to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation by driving by Horseshoe FSB (entry is prohibited due to the ongoing presence of land mines). Before going on to the Long Phuoc Tunnels, stop at the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a site of memory. The Long Phuoc Tunnels had meeting spaces, first aid stations, and fighting pits, just like other underground systems discovered in Vietnam.

Our last destination on a half-day journey to Long Tan - Nui Dat is the Long Phuoc Tunnels. You will return to Ho Chi Minh City after a brief break.

Visit ends at your hotel.

Great trip to some fascinating sites - We had a great day with Dan and a very good driver. The HCMC morning traffic is a wonder to behold! Nui Dat,Long Phuoc tunnels and Long Tan were really amazing. The sites are not all perfectly preserved (Stonehenge style) but Dans commentary, photos and ‘no punches pulled’ sure fill in the gaps. Aussies with relatives who served at Long Tan may be disappointed that the main site is now basically a working quarry

Essential for any Australians Visiting Vietnam - This was a great day out, and an important trip for any Australian touring Vietnam. A lovely bloke and veteran, Sergeant Tony, took me out there for the tour and was an excellent guide, providing assistance with everything on the day plus great information about Long Tan and also Vietnamese history since the war. The ride out there was very comfortable and provided a good chance to see more of Ho Chi Minh City. Hotel pick up and drop off was provided, with the tour wrapping up in the mid afternoon. This tour is definitely something to book in for any Aussie travelling to Ho Chi Minh.

The best and only Long Tan tour to book: - There is no other tour company that anyone should book with when wanting to pay respect for the service of Australian troops during the Vietnam war. This is all due to Mr Tony/ Dao. He is a veteran of the war himself, a former Sgt and his knowledge of  the history at every stop and the war in general added on with his first hand stories cannot be matched. No other tour or tour guide can provide what Tony offers. Not only one of the greatest men I have had the honour of meeting, but without question the best tour guide. I am truly grateful, humbled and honoured that not only that I got to do this tour, but that I had Mr Tony as my guide. It will be a day the will stay with for the rest of my life. If you have any interest in history and paying respect to the past and sacrifices of our service men during the Vietnam war, book this tour when you are in Vietnam Thank you so much again to Tony and lest we forget.

Fantastic tour off the regular tourist map - A must for any Australian visiting Vietnam. Ask for Mr Tu as your guide. He will take you to places of Long Tan interest for Australians not in the usual tourist map. His knowledge of Australia’s history and involvement is not only from his studies but also his family history during the war. He also knows all the must sees in Saigon. Incredible tour. Thank you Tu

Great day, with a very informative guide. - My 16 year old son and i had a great tour with Tony as our very knowlegable guide. We were picked up from our Saigon hotel for the 90 minute drive to the area. Tony has a great deal of experience in the area, as he was an interpreter for the Aussies during the war and was able to answer all of our questions. We were able to head into nearby tunnels and then clamber up SAS Hill (remember to take water with you!). We only saw one other couple through the day's tour, which made this a very personal experience for us. Would certinaly recommend doing this tour.

Fascinating experience - Our trip to Long Tan was combined with a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels. This was a long day but being a private tour made it very enjoyable and easy, particularly for jumping large tour groups, toilet breaks, dealing with rain and ensuring all our questions were answered. Our tour guide Tu was simply phenomenal - he was so knowledgeable and passionate about the information he shared and also took a very lovely view of forgiving but not forgetting the horrors of war. Whilst Nui Dat and Long Tan are known as a places of significance to most Australians, it is an eye opening journey to both as they are virtually hidden from view and locals are reluctant to assist with locating. Tu was very respectful at both Nui Dat and Long Tan and gave us time to stand and appreciate the serenity of the areas and what it would have been like for our soldiers. He also had the Australian National Anthem ready to play for us which was a nice touch. We took our children ages 11, 14 and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have a strong military family background, including members who served in Vietnam, so it was important to us that the kids understood the history, politics and short and longer term damage sustained by both sides. Tu was excellent at weaving all of this together in a way that was age appropriate but also delivered the right message. Tu was also great at engaging the children and took the time to speak with them individually on various topics. They kids felt very comfortable with him and were happy to ask questions etc. Our time at Cu Chi was also great and we were very pleased to have our own private guide rather than trying to navigate the grounds in a big group. We definitely saw and learnt more than the big groups we saw there on the day. Lunch was delicious Pho at a nice restaurant on the main road. Tu had not been made aware of our dietary requirements ahead of time but was able to sort easily for us before arriving at lunch and the restaurant very kindly sourced food from another shop for us. There were two thing we were not aware of on booking (1) That Cu Chi and Long Tan are in opposite directions out of Saigon and so rather than an extension tour, we effectively did two tours back to back. Had we realised this, we would have opted to do across two separate days. (2) there was an additional stop added to a government run laquer factory which supports those affected by agent orange. We suspect this is part of the deal for visiting the historical sites but it was disappointing to waste the time in doing so as laquer work is not of interest to us. Thankfully the tour guide was pretty quick in telling us the process and there was no hard sell to by products by him or Tu. Tu was such a wonderful guide and we would highly recommend you ask for him if you book this trip. He is so generous with his time and happy to share lots of personal stories/information about his family during the war and life today etc. Finally, the can we travelled in was very luxurious and in perfect condition. We were offered plenty of iced water throughout the trip and even an umbrella when it rained. Our driver was also excellent, never keeping us waiting and driving very carefully in some challenging conditions! If you are considering this tour, just book it, you won’t regret it!
