Additional Information

Cockburn’s expansive maturation warehouse, residing in the historical core of Vila Nova de Gaia, is the largest, hosting 6,518 Port Barrels ageing under its colossal ceiling. It boasts one of the rare facilities with its team of barrel-makers.

Cockburn’s Ports undergo meticulous ageing in oak vessels and ferries under the supervision of expert tasters and wine-makers until they attain perfect ripeness.

The grand scale of Cockburn’s warehouse affords ample room to store bountiful amounts of the Special Reserve ageing process, which cultivates its distinctive style and flawless equilibrium, gained from extended wood ageing than any other Reserve Port.

Perfect Tour/Guide/History/Tasting - Perfect! Great guide, could explain herself perfectly in english, it wasn't a pre-studied text that she just went through, she really told us the story. you could ask any question and she knew. Nice to see they also show appreciation toward the people who make the wooden barrels and the people in the vineyards! A very nice history and nice port tasting, for us it was the best thing we did the whole trip :-)

Great tour, staff, food and port - Had an amazing time! The tour was really interesting, with a lovely guide who was passionate and knowledgeable. Answered all of our questions. The tasting was a great addition to the tour. The cheese board was very reasonable as an upgrade to the tasting. There was a delay on the hot food, but the staff went above and beyond to apologise and sort this out. So left very happy.

Absolutely brilliant experience! - There are 100+ port lodges in Porto/Gaia, but we choose Cockburns for no other reason that we enjoy it back at home. However, the visit experience from arrival until we left was fabulous! Our tour guide was Manual, and what an asset he is to the Cockburn team. There was nothing he didn’t know, and the manner he presented the process showed how passionate he is about it - and he made us laugh during the whole experience. One of life’s really nice guys! Cockburns and Manual - don’t miss it!

An interesting and surprising experience - A truly interesting visit, with a very competent and friendly guide (in Italian). Spectacular venues, discovering many secrets of Port wine production and, last but not least, at the end of the tour, a pleasant tasting of various types of wine. Good experience.

Very informative - A visit in French at 11 a.m. to the Cockburn's cellar with a very good guide. Tasting of 3 different ports at the end of the visit. A very good time thank you.

Really interesting tour and tasting - Had a tour with Juliana in perfect English. Juliana had all the answers re port history and production and also comparing production techniques of different wines and spirits with port. It was then helpful to use the new found knowledge when contrasting the sample ports at the tasting at the end of the tour.

Don't Like Port Wine But Still a Great Tour - You can't visit Porto and not tour a port wine cellar/cave. I love wine, never got a taste for port but still nice to see. Being two gay guys, of course, we picked "Cocksburn" to tour. When we arrived, much to our surprise (Ok, honestly - a little to our disappointment) we learned they dropped the "CKS" when pronouncing it making it pronounced "Coburn." Oh well. Lol. Maybe marketing reasons? We had a great time and everyone was very nice. A nice big shop as.well.

Disappointing Experience - Somewhat disappointed. The settting is nothing special. What annoyed us the most was after paying for premium tastings and asking about a cheese board we were advised one cheese board was not enough for two people. WRONG! One board is 100% shareable between two people. It’s big ugly chicks of cheese that wasn’t explained to us so we had no idea what cheese we were eating. The port was nice but generally a lack of attention and overall experience was poor.
