Highlights
  • Leopold Museum - Leopold Museum is the best place in Vienna to see the most scandalous works of arts ever created in Vienna and understand the principle of the nowness of art. Leopold Museum features a permanent exhibition of Egon Schiele’s works aside from temporary expositions, and it is considered that Shiele’s exhibitionist works are still capable of inciting dubious reactions since many themes he covered in his pieces, such as the line between pornography and art, still cause heated discussions nowadays.

Additional Information

The Leopold Collection hosts an impressive variety of emotion-stirring Viennese artworks from the start of the 20th century. Our museum’s art exhibition offers a glimpse of masterpieces by icons such as Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele, and Richard Gerstel that give insight into the era’s intriguing complexities.

Gustav Klimt is a figure of relentless creative exploration, with every phase of his journey captured through the distinctive art within the Leopold Museum. We’ll delve into Klimt’s initial sketches to get a feel for his portrait painting talent. Uncover recently revealed aspects of his life that shed new light on his unmistakable artistic style.

The work of Egon Schiele exemplifies the link between an artist’s imagination and their inner world. It invites the question of whether it’s mere chance that while Sigmund Freud, a Viennese psychotherapist, was formalising theories like ‘repression’, ‘Oedipus complex’, and ‘acting out’, the Viennese artist Schiele was rendering paintings of sightless partners, satirical imitations of notable artwork, and images of deceased mothers.

Whilst Klimt and Schiele are two renowned personalities within the Viennese art domain of the early 1900s, we also examine the effort of their peers Koloman Moser, Max Openheimer, and Bronzia Koller-Pinel, providing a comprehensive view into Vienna’s vibrant intellectual and creative environment during the early 20th century.

In your journey through the Leopold Museum, observe how the artists’ transformation of art’s intent ushered in a fresh era of artistic styles and a redesigned understanding of art itself.

An incredible tour of the Leopold Museum with Julia. - My wife and I were thrilled to revisit the Leopold Museum in Vienna, as we have a deep appreciation for its impressive collection of art. However, we wanted to take our experience to the next level and booked a private tour with an art expert to gain unique insights. Our expectations were exceeded when we met Julia, our guide for the day. Her exceptional knowledge and ability to communicate complex information in an engaging manner made the experience truly unforgettable. We spent two and a half hours with her, but could have easily spent more time due to the fascinating insights she provided. Our time with Julia was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip to Vienna. We cannot wait to visit another museum with her on our next city tour.

Six out of five stars - Our tour was a highlight of our week in Vienna. Julia was knowledgable, engaging, and balanced high level history with specific facts. We came out with a better understanding of Austria, art more broadly, but also the three Austrian masters. I could not recommend the tour more.

One of the highlights of our trip to Vienna - Julia was an engaging and knowledgeable guide, and our 2+ hours with her flew by! I left the tour with a newfound appreciation for Klimt as well as the ability to really see the visual relationship between Klimt's works and Schiele's. In addition, Julia also wove in lots of interesting history about Vienna. In sum, I learned a ton and would take another tour with Julia in a heartbeat.

Great experience! - Having visited the major art museums in Vienna on our own , for the Leopold Museum we decided to take a guided tour. Julia was a fantastic guide and we loved every minute of exploring the exhibition in her company. Thanks a lot!

Great tour - I took the ARTWITHME tour at the Leopold Museum. It was the perfect experience. I had no trouble meeting up with my guide. Julia is an art historian and an art curator so she really knew what she was talking about when at some pretty provocative paintings we talked about what is allowed to be exhibited in a museum. Highly interesting, highly recommended

Immersive experience - When I was reading the description of this tour in the Leopold Museum I was immediately sure that this would not be just another guided tour through a museum. And when I met Julia and we started off it was like completely immersing yourself in the context of art and its various meanings and impacts. Julia was so engaging, knowledgeable and unconventional; she has given me so many new pieces of the puzzle that my already trained „artistic mind“ desperately needed. Highly recommended!

This experience still resonates in our minds - I came to Vienna with my wife, who is a big fan of the Wiener Moderne, so of course this tour was a given from the start. Yet, thanks to Julia of Art With Me, it became a revelation and a truly immersive journey into the lives of these artists, the struggles of their time and the reasons why their art is was it is - this experience still resonates in our minds. Thanks a million!
