Additionally, delve into the park’s past and the historical narratives of the original Coast Salish tribes that resided in the space. The tour takes us down various park trails where we encounter some of the most magnificent surviving titans. Some of these titans are concealed unless you’re acquainted with their locations. Highlight of our vancouver visit - We had an amazing time on this tour. We are traveling through Canada for a few weeks and so far, this tour has been the highlight of our holiday. Our guide, Colin, showed us great highlights in Stanley Park, and told us about the history, and the way the trees and ecosystems around them have been shaped. His tales were full of knowledge and enthusiasm and we could not have asked for a better guide to show us around!

Splendid Tour of the Biggest Trees in Stanley Park by a Superb Guide - Mr. Colin Spratt led me and a friend around Stanley Park on Wednesday 5.8.2024. The trees themselves—and not only the biggest, oldest ones, although those are indeed special—are ennobling and sublime; the deep interior of Stanley Park is a perfectly magical place, the dappled haunt, one likes to imagine, of spirits of earth and wood—and certainly of eagles, which live high in the great trees, and which we were privileged to see. But the best thing of all is Mr. Spratt himself (Ancient Trees of Vancouver’s proprietor and only guide, so you will get him). I am a college professor, and thus wholly intolerant of the sound of any voice but my own. But I stood entranced for hours listening to Mr. Spratt. That he is immensely knowledgeable about trees, about nature, about forestry and logging, about Stanley Park, and about the history of Vancouver—this all goes without saying. But what makes Mr. Spratt so remarkable is his careful planning (so you always know what you need to understand what you are about to see); his sense of audience and its intellectual needs; and his willingness to listen to questions (some of them rather odd) and answer them with attention, empathy and acute intelligence. He possesses an artist’s ability to see, a teacher’s talent to explain, and matchless nerdy charm. There was no—I dread this on such occasions—talking down to the ignorant (such as me), droning, grinding eco-politics (well, a little bit, but not grinding), or asking for donations. Still, in an entirely guileless, delightfully Canadian way, Mr. Spratt is the Lorax: he speaks for the trees. One small warning in closing: in our case Mr. Spratt ran a full hour over his three contracted hours. You will be spellbound and grateful, but you will also be hungry. Bring both water and food!

Tree-mendous - Colin is a wealth of knowledge and humor! I learned a lot on this tour. You won't be disappointed. The tour can take 2.5-3hours and the meeting place is in the park, third beach area. I now look at trees differently.

Top nature and history tour! - This is one of the top nature tours I have ever experienced! Colin was so knowledgeable and passionate about preserving and understanding these beautiful ancient trees and forest. I learned so much and enjoyed the educational nature walk. I have visited Stanley Park so many times before, but Colin helped us to explore an area that may be hidden to most and naturally preserved. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves history and nature!

Great experience! - What a wonderful time! Colin is very knowledgeable and very passionate about the trees and history of Stanley Park. His excitement and love for the area was contagious. The tour was complete with photos from generations past that show how the area has changed (this specific tree, with this specific path, etc.). It was amazing to see how much (or how little) certain areas have changed. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. An amazing spot of actual (not planned or manufactured) nature in the middle of a wonderfully metropolitan city. Bring your awe and close-toed shoes.
