Additional Information

Echmiatsin serves as the sacred hub of the Armenian Apostolic Church, recognized as the world’s oldest state-constructed church. Here, everyone is welcome to explore the museum ‘Treasures of Echmiatsin’ to view the Sacred Lance (Spear), traces linked to Apostles of Jesus and John the Baptist, and a piece of Noah’s Ark.

The Saint Hripsime Church, a 7th-century Armenian Apostolic Church was established by Catholicos Komitas on the burial site of the sacrificed Saint Hripsime, to whom the church is dedicated. The Saint Gayane Church, another 7th-century Armenian church situated in Etchmiadzin, was erected by Catholicos Ezra I in 630. The church, built in the location where Saint Gayane was persecuted, is devoted to the abbess Gayane.

The Zvartnots temple, constructed in the 7th century near Ejmiatsin, is a globally recognized architectural structure.

In the year 2000, Zvartnots and the churches of St. Hripsimeh, St. Gayaneh, along with the Mother Cathedral in Echmiadzin, were enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
