Highlights
  • Kaitek Viajes - Point
  • Tolhuin - Technical stop for toilet use
  • RP H 18 - After 120km of travel (technical stop in Tolhuin for toilet use), we take Provincial Route No. 18, a gravel road to begin our 4x4 adventure.

On the way we will be able to observe centennial Estancias, as well as guanacos and the “Ecotone” landscape typical of the transition zone between the forest and the steppe.

  • Lago Yehuin - Upon arrival at Lake Yehuin (Selk’nam area of the area known as “Shamans” or healers), we will take the opportunity to walk and enjoy the surroundings while preparing a delicious country snack.

Lake Yehuin is of glacial origin and is crescent-shaped, in addition to being parallel to Lake Chepelmut. It contains some islands in its interior and several fjords. It empties into Lake Fagnano through a smaller river, a tributary of the Claro River, which empties into the Fagnano, so the Yehuin belongs to the Pacific Ocean basin.

On its shores is the Shenolsh hill, from which views of the surrounding landscape are obtained, along with a small rural population, to the north of the lake.

  • Reserva Corazon de la Isla - Bifurcación a Los Lagos - We will begin the Path of the Route, immersed in the Heart of the Island Provincial Reserve, through which we will be able to contemplate a lenga forest hundreds of years old. When you reach the end of the trail, you can enjoy the surroundings and see one of the typical houses of the loggers and the Selk’nam aborigines, “La Ruca”.
  • Tolhuin - Then, we will go to Tolhuin, the city of the Heart of the Island, where we will taste a delicious lunch in a classic restaurant decorated with the best attention from local people.
  • Lago Fagnano - Previous departure, we will know we will border the head of the Fagnano Lake in all its route.
  • Kaitek Viajes - End of the tour.

A trip beyond the call of duty! - My wife & I travel extensively and thoroughly research our local trips in advance. For our trip to Tierra del Fuego, Kaitek Viajes stood out for the variety of choices and recommendations. It was a very good decision to use them. The trip was top class and is to be highly recommended for the scenery of T del F and ADVENTURE. However, our choice was not without some drama and was entirely my fault. I booked what I thought was a private tour and when the 4x4 came to pick us up at our hotel there were others on board. Being of a stubborn nature, I refused to get on and they had no choice but to continue without us. Only then did I discover that I had in fact booked a shared tour and not a private one. I proceeded to the offices and embarrassingly explained my misunderstanding. Despite having forfeited the tour, the office manager Maria did everything to find us an alternative but all tours were booked. Much to our delight Garman, the owner, contacted me and said he did not want us to be disappointed in leaving Ushuaia and arranged a private tour in the afternoon without additional cost. To our delight, Garman and Maria turned up to take us on our much-anticipated tour, in their free time. In addition to the normal route, they ventured to other areas not scheduled to ensure we got the most out of our visit. I was very fortunate I made this mistake. They were both delightful company and gave a tremendous end to a two-week stay in Argentina. This review may sound long-winded but I want travellers to know the quality and excellence of the people who run this company. Such people deserve to be supported in order to maintain the highest of standards, especially also as what they offer by way of tours is 5* plus. Thank you guys for a memorable visit to Ushuaia.

Part adventure and history tour. - Picked up at hotel, with an English speaking guide and driven through the Andean foothills to Garibaldi pass for a scenic view of lake faragano, then down a bush track straight off the escarpment, which offered views of small creeks, waterfalls, beaver ponds/earthworks and the occasional glimpse of the lake. The guide, Anna, providing commentary as we go. Finally arrive at our private cabin on the lake, situated on a rambling estancia (ranch/farm/cattle station). Anna and our driver whip up a salad, bread, wine and asada feast, with crème caramel for sweets!! After lunch we look at the estancia museum which provides an overview of its history and characters, which they still revere today! Then its back to Ushaia. Somehow the change in light makes the mountains look different this time.
