Additional Information

It’s vital to wear proper mountain attire for this activity due to safety considerations. Should you not possess the suitable gear, there is an option to lease it.

Our journey commences as we traverse along national route 3 for approximately 17 kilometers to get to the entrance point. Our hike starts at the trail’s parking area, which promptly ushers us into the heart of the wilderness.

The trail brings us near a beaver dam and guides us across the valley until reaching a peat bog. Here, it will parallel the Esmeralda river until its inception at the Esmeralda lagoon. After a final ascent, we will arrive at the lagoon that is frozen in the wintertime and captivates us with its beautiful hue in the summer.

Provided the weather is agreeable, we will break for lunch at the lagoon, taking in the breathtaking sight of the Albino glacier, the lagoon, and the surrounding landscape. Subsequently, we will trace the same path back to the return vehicle waiting to shuttle you back to your accommodation.

  • Passport name, number, expiry and country is required at time of booking for all participants

Best short Ushuaia trek. - It was a perfect experience to go to Laguna Esmeralda with Arpon Turismo. Excellent and communicative guide, perfectly adjusted pace and a lot of breaks during the way in the most inspiring places. Driver was also very safe and punctual. It will be a pleasure to go with another trek with you in the future.

Good walk even in snow - Excellent trek and explanation. Though would recommend if you’re looking to see a green lake, going at a warmer time of the year.

Amazing hike - I chose to go with Arpón for a trek to Esmeralda Picked up by the driver and Carlos from my hotel. It was a small group which was great We were giving cramp ons and walking stick to make the trek easier Carlos our guide was amazing he is very knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to this We always felt safe and had a lot of fun The hike itself is fairly easy. The lunch box we had was good too Carlos did his best to help me feel part of the group as I was the only non Spanish speaker in the group

Great day out! - A great day out! I was collected from my hotel on time, given a lovely lunch (without tomatoes as requested). Joaquin was very friendly, helpful and filled us in on lots of details in the area. Everyone else spoke Spanish so he told them first and then as we walked along he filled me in in English. It isn't a technically difficult walk but with the thick mud it was trickier than I expected. But, it is definitely worth it for the view!

Fabulous Day! - Fabulous day! Lovely guide with lots of excellent information. Well planned walk, plenty of stops & a generous lunch (too much to eat for me actually) Lots of mud but that is part of the experience and the lake and scenery are stunning. Highly recommended.

Wonderful walk to Laguna Esmeralda - I did this walk with a group of five other people and our guide, Pamilla. Pick up was on time and we arrived at the starting point in good time. The track is extremely muddy at the moment due to all the rain and Pamilla was great at picking a good path and looking after all the group. It is 5 km to the lake where you have a break and then 5 km back. A light brunch is provided at the lake with tea, empanadas (excellent), fruit, dried fruit and nuts and cakes. Some the hike is challenging - there is climb uphill for a section and also some peat bog to negotiate. Poles were provided. I thought it was a terrific day and would recommend using Arpon. The lake is beautiful with the glacier and mountains above it and you walk through some nice forest and also an area where the beavers have dammed up a river.

Beautiful walk - Although you can do this without a guide, is good to have one to avoid ended up stuck in the mud ;) it can be done in any weather, but if you are lucky to get a sunny day you'll see the amazing color
