Highlights

Putu resides in the home of her forebears, nestled within a traditional family complex. Upon your arrival, you’ll be greeted by her elders, her spouse, Pasta, and their trio of offspring. From a tender age, Putu honed her culinary prowess under her grandmother’s tutelage, mastering the art of daily meal preparation. These skills have since blossomed into both a professional calling and a heartfelt hobby. Employed as a chef at a pair of exclusive estates, Putu crafts innovative Balinese cuisine, much to the delight of her patrons. She takes considerable pride in the aesthetic arrangement of her creations, garnishing them with intricately carved produce. In her domestic life, she is tasked with the creation of sacred offerings, ranging from modest tributes to towering fruit structures that she balances atop her head during religious festivities. Additionally, Putu concocts homemade jamu, a traditional medicinal brew derived from turmeric.\n\nPutu’s grandparents, who cultivate rice, will offer you their own harvest during your meal. You’ll be invited to explore their homestead, including a tour of the family’s spiritual sanctuary, where they will elucidate the significance of the various sacred items. Their property boasts a lush orchard with an array of trees bearing jackfruit, cacao, durian, coffee, and bananas. The family also raises a collection of animals, including pigs, ducks, chickens, and a cow.\n\nNote: The cost covers a round-trip transfer from your accommodation in Ubud.\n\nPoints of Interest\n\n- Komaneka at Bisma

Amazing food, amazing experience - This was an amazing experience! Putu was so kind and showed us around her family’s beautiful garden before teaching us how to cook 5 delicious dishes (with fresh produce from the garden!) We ate so well and was even able to take some leftovers! Would 100% recommend!

Wonderful day with Putu!! - We had a fantastic day cooking with Putu, her cousin and Putu's husband. We learned how to prepare and cook Balinesian food. It was a hands on experience, and then we got to eat the food. I love spicy but my wife doesn't so Putu had twice us much work to do helping us prepare each dish two ways. We would highly recommend this cooking class, in their beautiful countryside outside Ubud. Have fun!!

Great cooking and cultural experience - This was a perfect experience. We saw the home, temple, garden and the home life. Putu talked about the way of life for the rice growing family. Then we started preparing a wonderful meal. She was a great teacher. She guided us through making sauces, rice, sauces and spices we were using. And then we got to eat. And then she sent us the recipes. I highly recommend this class. You will learn so much.

Cooking together with Putu and her family - We cooked together at Putu's house. We were picked up from the hotel and brought back later. Putu and her family were very nice and warm. Funny too. Putu speaks good English. Almost all of the ingredients came from the farm itself. We cooked five dishes in total. We thought her selection was very good and delicious. At the end we were able to take home what we couldn't finish. At the end we received all of the recipes from her via WhatsApp. We would do it again anytime.
