Join us for a tour around the fascinating remains of medieval Newcastle, including free entry to Newcastle Castle.
This tour will explore the medieval history of Newcastle which lies hidden behind the modern city.
One of our authentically costumed guides will take you from St Andrews, Newcastle’s oldest church, past the formidable town walls taking in Friaries, merchant houses, markets and guild headquarters, before finishing at the imposing Black Gate - the gatehouse of Newcastle’s Castle.
From here you will be free to explore the amazingly preserved remains of the Black Gate and Castle Keep for yourselves - tickets are included in the price of the tour.

Go the gate of St Andrew's Churchyard and a guide will meet you there. They will be dressed in medieval clothing so should be easy to spot!

Walking Newcastle's history. - George was the most well informed guide we've ever heard! He brought Newcastle's fascinating history to life and had a wonderful way of sharing his knowledge.
We highly recommend this walking tour... we would do it all again. Thank you very much.

Not to be missed - What a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours getting to know the hidden parts of Newcastle. George kept adults and children alike enthralled from the minute he turned up dressed as a friar. Tales of medieval murder, mayhem (& some romance) were delivered throughout a two hour walking tour. We learnt new facts (the Bigg Market has always been synonymous with beer 😆) and George was an excellent guide. This is a must do, especially with a ticket for the castle included in the price. Certainly value for money.

A very interesting tour - Thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with George at the weekend. I know quite a bit of local history but he still pulled out lots of great stories and took us to places I hadn’t been before. He had a real gift for bringing history to life. Personally, I’d like them to do a tour of Victorian Newcastle too as there is such a lot to see and learn about our fantastic city.

Medieval Newcastle walk - We had a great morning learning about medieval Newcastle with our tour guide George who was fantastic, full of facts and information and we have our entrance tickets to the castle to use at a future date . Newcastle has a fascinating history and would thoroughly recommend this experience.

Fantastic tour - Very interesting tour with a friend. I live nearby and she has recently moved here and we both found it fascinating. Guide was fantastic, George, so much information, he was excellent. Added bonus to get an annual ticket to visit the castle any time.

Excellent Medieval Newcastle walk - An excellent tour around the town walls, medieval buildings and historical sites of central Newcastle. The knowledgeable and entertaining guide (George) in costume (including sword) certainly knew about Newcastle's history and communicated facts dates and stories very well. I learned a lot about the fascinating history of medieval Newcastle and came away with some great research topics. Tour includes a year's ticket to the Castle so is great value. I thoroughly recommend this experience.

A tour not to be missed - A fantastic tour offering knowledgeable insight and enlightenment of the Newcastle of Medieval times. Dan, my guide, dressed in the costume of the period, certainly knows and delivers his history entertainingly and engagingly. I much recommend this tour for locals (I am) or visitors to the city.
