Udawalawe National Park lies on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, in Sri Lanka. The national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir. The reserve covers 30,821 hectares. Udawalawe is an important habitat for Sri Lankan elephants, which are relatively hard to see in its open habitats. Many elephants are attracted to the park because of the Udawalawe reservoir, with a herd of about 250 believed to be permanently resident.

Excellent activity whilst in Sri Lanka! - Excellent trip, easy to organise and a personal experience. We saw a lot of different animals and they clearly knew where the best places to see them. Would definitely recommend and use again. Thanks a lot!

Mr & Mrs Polanski - As part of our holiday in Sri Lanka this year we visited the reserve at Udawalawe. Our driver collected us punctually from our hotel at 5:30am, and we had a brilliant morning on our jeep safari. He made sure that we met up with families of elephants, pointed out a huge variety of spectacular birds, perching in the trees and wading in the lakes. We saw basking crocodiles and water buffaloes the turquoise flashes of king fishers and green bee eaters . We were extremely well satisfied with our experience,

Flora and fauna in spades. - Our driver also acted as guide and combined both roles brilliantly. Through his experiences eyes, logs became crocodiles, while herds of buffalo and families of elephants plus solitary males were approached almost within touching distance. Add in the monkeys, exotic birds, tortoises, etc and the 3 hours spent on safari flew by. Highly recommended.

Really amazing safari experience - We booked a private half day morning safari and were paired with Mr. Dhammika the day before the actual safari. He offered to guide us himself so we didn’t hire an additional guide on arrival. It turned out to be an amazing time. He was very knowledgeable about literally every animal we saw, an expert at picking out animals we would never have found, and made sure we were first in line to get the best experience within the safari grounds. We saw many elephants up close, as well as many birds, peacocks, and water buffalo. We would request him again if we ever came back!! The safari grounds themselves are not crowded, and the animals are treated with respect, not purposefully wound up for the sake of entertainment. You won’t be disappointed with this safari experience and I would personally request Dhammika if you can! Thank you for a great experience!

Highly recommend - very enjoyable - I booked the afternoon safari and the communication was excellent as Henry contacted me via email & then WhatsApp after I gave my number confirming all the details beforehand thoroughly. The safari was brilliant (I saw elephants, crocodiles, water buffaloes & lots of birds) and a highlight of my Sri Lanka trip. My driver (sorry I didn’t catch his name) was very polite, informative on all the animals and had a fantastic bird spotting eye. Overall it was a great day and thank you to my driver for making it so memorable!

Afternoon safari at Udawalawe - I would highly recommend booking a safari through this agent. I booked last minute whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka and received immediate confirmation (via email and Whatsapp) from the company. The safari driver was extremely flexible and accommodating (we arrived 1 hour early and were able to reschedule our safari to this earlier time). Furthermore, the safari driver was extremely knowledgeable and spoke brilliant English. I would highly recommend booking a safari at Udawalawe National Park in advance using this company. Fantastic safari - We loved our morning safari, it was such a peaceful and exciting journey around the Udawalawe National Park. Our driver got us into the park quickly, amongst a huge traffic jam of jeeps. We got up close with many elephants and also watched a baby elephant with its mum and two other elephants take a bath in a waterhole. We saw lots of birdlife, crocodiles and buffalo. Our driver was very safe and could spot even the most camouflaged animal in the trees!

Good but expensive! - Driver picked us up as expected on time at 05.30. The tour was great, we saw more animals than we expected (missed leopards though). Lots of jeeps at the entrance (maybe 30-ish) and sometimes when some animals were spotted, but it didn't really bother us that much, it's fun to watch other people too. The big issue was the price, we payed almost 20000LKR (~$115USD) and the owner of the lodge we stayed at almost laughed at us as he offered the same for around 8000LKR. That said we don't know what quality he offered, but looking at other jeeps on the trip we wouldn't expect it to be much different.
