Additional Information

This excursion offers you a leisurely and enlightening walk around the picturesque town of Speightstown, a place bustling with life yet notably retains its English colonial essence. Our tour plans, customized for smaller groups, are designed to enhance the genuine feel of a Speightstown tour, viewed through the knowledgeable perspective of a local.

The most striking characteristic of Speightstown is its 17th century precolonial structures. You will have the opportunity to visit and understand the tales of historic edifices dating back to the earliest inhabitants while perceiving the evolution that the town has undergone, visible through the amalgamation of modern design. Keeping in mind the fortifications scattered along Barbados’s coastlines, one would presume that Little Bristol too would have its dose of safeguards.

You will also have the chance to mingle with the Speightstown residents. The roadside vendors and rum shops continue to be an integral part of this town.

Educational & Empowering Tour Centering Black histories, experiences and contributions - This was an amazing tour and Kristin was an even better guide. We had him twice for two different tours and he didn’t disappoint! It’s evident that he’s a very knowledgeable guide and has a passion for Barbados history, and future. We especially enjoyed Kristin’s and the tour’s emphasis on the Black experience. As a Black people, it was important to hear a nuanced account of the island’s Black histories and contributions. Yes, Barbados is a majority Black country, but most of our experiences glossed over Black history other than mentioning “slavery.” Kristin made us feel respected and engage with a history that put us at the center and not along the margins. It’s in the name Chattel House. This tour and experience with Kristin enjoyable and educational.

Interesting - Took a morning tour with Christien yesterday. For such a small town there is so much history, good & bad. We finished off with lunch at the Fishermans Pub on his recommendation. Thanks for the tour 👍

Interesting tour of Speightstown - Christen, our guide, was very welcoming when we arrived at the meeting point. He was interested in everyone on the tour and how often we had visited Barbados. The amount of visits did not translate to knowledge, however as there were people on our tour who had visited many time but had not seen much and did not know much about the history. Christen’s knowledge of Speightstown and the history of Barbados was very good and he made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend this tour.

I'd give 6 stars if I could! - Carlo gave a *great* tour of Speightstown. He's done an incredible amount of work to assemble a thorough and enjoyable tour. The history of this town is amazing and Carlo makes it come alive. You can imagine all the forts that lined the shores, the signals being transmitted across the island when danger was spotted at sea, and how the buildings along the waterfront were used. I am glad to learn about the important role that S'town has had in Barbados history. Carlo is also full of knowledge about Barbados today which was equally interesting. I highly recommend this tour and it's a 'must do' if you are a history buff.

Very interesting tour and excellent guide. - A really interesting tour. More about the history of Barbados than Speightstown specifically but Kristin was really knowledgable and friendly. Good to take time to look at the buildings and their history which you might miss on your own. Nice bars and restaurants to cool down afterwards.

Nice tour but more depth would have improved the experience. - Very pleasant tour guide. Covered many historic sights on and adjacent to Queen Street. In- depth coverage of churches and iconic chattel houses. Could have talked more about public facilities, town centre, library, local governance and how these developed from the past to today as well as prominent towns people and how they contributed to Barbados.
