Highlights
  • Temple of Poseidon - Embark on an exclusive sunset excursion to Cape Sounion. The journey begins with a scenic drive along the Athens Riviera. As you relax, take in the stunning vistas of the Saronic Gulf and pass by some of Athens’ most picturesque suburbs, including Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza.

Upon reaching Cape Sounion, you’ll explore the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon, perched with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day, multiple islands are visible). Cape Sounion has been significant in Greek mythology and history, first appearing in the Odyssey as the final safe haven before Poseidon wreaked havoc on the Greek fleet returning home. Poseidon, the god of the sea, held great importance for the ancient Greeks, and the grandeur of his temple at Cape Sounion is a testament to that.

Following your visit to the Temple, having soaked in the site’s beauty, history, and culture, prepare to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets imaginable. As the sun gently meets the sea, it’s the ideal time for a glass of wine, followed by a meal at a picturesque seafront tavern nearby.

Savor the expansive views of the Aegean and capture memorable photographs. On the return trip, indulge in a delectable waffle with ice cream, a local secret.

A lovely evening excursion! - We (2 couples) had a beautiful ride along the coast to Cape Sounion, including a lovely seaside dinner. Evangelos was a friendly, knowledgeable, safe driver. We all had a lovely evening!

See above - Evangelos was a fantastic guide we really enjoyed conversing with him on the way to Poseidon’s temple Evangelos definitely gets the five star rating….. On the other hand the restaurant we stopped at for the dinner was the most disgusting food we have eaten in Greece, all the servers were very rude and were absolutely no help in identifying what was included in the paid meal. I would not even feed the food to my dog if I had one. For future tours I would strongly suggest you find a better restaurant to stop at.

Don't miss Poseidon's Temple - especially at sunset! - We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it! First, we we were pleased to receive confirmation of our hotel pick-up a day ahead of time (while we were still in the U.S.) as well as a second confirmation shortly before pick-up time. Harry was our driver. He was prompt, polite, and personable. Upon pick-up, he introduced himself and outlned the plan and timing of the stops for the evening to ensure it met our expectations and enabled us to see the sunset at the Cape. He povided a lot of infomation about the area which was extremely helpful as this was our first day in Athens. It was enjoyable to be just the two of us in the back of a small sedan for this tour, and Harry made sure we were comfortable at all times. Our first stop was quick, just to see the legendary and beautiful Lake Vouliagmeni shortly outside of the city. From there, we headed to a local taverna near the Cape for dinner and were surprised to be the only ones in the place, but learned that was because it was too early for the locals to be eating their dinners. We had outstanding service, a beautiful view right on the water, and excellent food. Harry explained what our budget was for dinner (and we easily stayed within it even though we each enjoyed an appetizer, dinner, and glass of wine). We also received an unexpected complimentary dessert. After a short drive, we reached the Temple and Harry dropped us off at the pathway leading to the ticket booth. After we purchased our tickets, we walked up the gravel path (pretty easy walk) and enjoyed the beautiful site. Unfortunately, the sky was very hazy because of the sands blowing in from the Sahara, but it was still a magnificent view and perfect start to our adventures in this beautiful country. Despite the day's warm temperatures, it was very windy and cool at the Cape and we were glad we had brought our jackets. After the sunset, we walked back to the parking lot where Harry was waiting, and he took us back to our hotel (a little more than an hour's drive), and he continued to offer interesting conversation throughout the ride back to the city. He offered to find us an ice cream shop if we were interested in purchasing some, but we declined as we were feeling jet-lagged. He gave us a small box of Greek treats to enjoy later. Thanks for a great introduction to Greece, Harry!

A lovely evening! - Our driver, Anthony, picked us up at our hotel on the dot and was charming. He gave us some background and history as we made the drive to Cape Sounion. He was also happy to chat about modern Greek life and we had a good evening putting the world to rights! The temple is a lovely spot and we spent an hour getting in and walking round the site, taking in the view. We stopped at a local restaurant on our way back and had some really good local food - everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be locals so always a good sign! Would thoroughly recommend
