Highlights
  • IAMME IA! - Gray Line Amalfi Coast - Departure from Sorrento
  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the Bay of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.
  • Basilica - The Basilica, with its extension of 1,500 square meters, was the most sumptuous building of the Forum, and its space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice.
  • Forum - The Civil Forum is the core of daily life of the city and is the focal point of all the main public buildings for city administration and justice, business management, and trade activities such as markets, as well as the main places of citizen worship.
  • Tempio di Giove Capitolino - The Temple of Jupiter dominates the north side of the Forum, with Mount Vesuvius scenically rising behind. When the colony was founded (80 BC), the temple underwent a radical renovation and became a real Capitolium with the three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, which looked like those of the Capitolium in Rome, placed on a high base so as to make them visible to whoever passed in the Forum square.
  • Macellum - The Macellum consists of a tuff quadriporticus with a hall for worship in an elevated position on the eastern side, in line with the entrance. The copies of two marble statues, a female and a male armed, are found on the niches of the side wall, together with the fragment of a larger statue, probably pertaining to an emperor, Titus or Vespasian, indicating how this area was intended for the imperial cult. To its left is a room for meetings of a sacred board and to the right a large room with a masonry counter perhaps for fish to be sold.
  • Via dell’Abbondanza - Via dell’Abbondanza was the ancient main street (decumanus maximus) of ancient Pompeii, which ran across the city in the direction east/west from the Forum to the Porta Sarno.
In ancient times the street was crowded and noisy with many shops, workshops (“officinae”), cafes, snack-bars and restaurants for food and drink.
  • Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - The Forum Baths are located behind the Temple of Jupiter and date back to the years immediately after the founding of the colony of veterans by General Silla (80 BC). Women’s and men’s quarters had separate entrances. The men’s section presents an apodyterium (dressing room), used also as a tepidarium (for medium temperature baths), frigidarium (for cold baths) and calidarium (for hot baths). Like many buildings in Pompeii, the baths were heavily damaged during the earthquake of 62 AD.
  • House of Menander (Casa del Menandro) - The house of the Menander is a great example of a Roman Villa owned by an high-ranking family. It is reachly decorated with wonderful frescoes representing scenes of the Trojan war and here were also founded many objects in silver, tableware now strored in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. The house owes its name to a picture of Menander, an Athenian poet, placed in the portico.
The house belonged to Quintus Poppaeus Sabinus of the Poppei family, relatives of the Empress Poppea Sabina, Nero’s second wife.
  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - The Large Theater of Pompeii was built from the Romans on the slope of a hill located in the area; they took advantage of the natural depression of the mountain to create a majesty auditorium divided into 5 sectors.
On the stage were played tragedies of the Greco-Roman traditions.

Great tour! - The size and scale of Pompeii was much more than expected. Andrea kept us organized and was very helpful. Our tour guide Max did a great job. Just expect the bus ride to Pompeii to take at least an hour thru heavy traffic and with winding roads. Not much can be done about that so be prepared.

Great tour of Pompeii - A wonderful day with 2 fantastic guides. Miguel on the bus and Max at the Pompeii ruins. Both went beyond what they had to trying to make the tour a memorable one. Great guides that were very knowledgeable and humorous. Well worth it 👍👍👍👍

Excellent Guided Tour - The archaeologist was excellent, bringing the life of Pompeii to us, from travelers to the city and how they were entertained to disposing of their effluent. Most intriguing Pompeii homes had sliding doors. So advanced.

Pompeii in a half day! - Very good tour! Eugenio was a fun and gracious host. Max was our tour guide once we got to Pompeii and he was great too. Everyone is so accommodating and friendly. The information about Pompeii was very educational, informative, and delivered with a splash of humor here and there which made it fun! We decided to skip the hike up to Mt. Vesuvius. No regrets. I'd definitely recommend this tour!

Good - The tour guides were amazing and very knowledgeable. The archeological site was fantastic and the skip the line was truly worth every penny. The bus transportation was not that great, the interior was a bit old, the air conditioning was on too high and all I could hear were the 4 American girls complaining the entire time how they were freezing. My son fell asleep and the bus tour operator yelled at us to hurry up and get off; I just needed 5 minutes to get on his rain gear… Overall a good experience as we got to see what we wanted although the weather could have been better…. It might been better if we could have found a tour that catered more to families with younger children.

Pompeii skip the line - The guide at Pompeii was great. Very knowledgeable. We were luck to be one of the first groups in so we were able to beat the crowds.

Good Experience; Recommended! - We enjoyed this tour a great deal. The bus left on time for Pompeii, but there was very heavy traffic to get to the site, apparently this is typical as we did not feel the tour at the site suffered, just be prepared for a fairly long ride time-wise and the possibility of the tour taking longer than estimated. The on-site tour guide was very informative and moved at a steady pace though the ruins. There were a lot of fellow tourists there on our day and it was a little challenging keeping up with our group, but everyone did it. We recommend this tour. The only problem encountered was not the fault of the tour itself; a couple on the tour scheduled their flight out on the same day and the tour operator had to assist them to get their ride to the airport, this caused the rest of the group to wait while these folks waited (and complained) for their taxi. All the while, the couple complained it was the tour companies fault for their poor planning. (Please don't plan tours on the same day you have to fly somewhere.) Again, we recommend this tour to others. May be a little challenging if you are mobility impaired, the site is on a hill and the 'walkways' are certainly not even.

Last minute let down - Shortly before we flew to Italy we were informed by Whatsapp that our tour was not going ahead due to lack of interest. Pompeii was our only reason for the trip!! We were offered a place on another tour the day before (the day we were actually flying - too short notice!) or a completely different tour to the Amalfi Coast (which was not of interest to us). We were extremely disappointed and stressed trying to find another tour provider. I eventually came across Enjoy Pompeii who delivered us a fantastic tour - we were the only 2 on the trip but they still went ahead and apparently always do - check them out!
