Highlights
  • Jogyesa Temple - The Jogyesa Buddhist Temple is one of the most important landmarks of Korean Buddhism, first established all the way back in 1935. The temple is located in downtown Seoul and is graced by an ancient white pine tree.
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace - You will see the meticulously choreographed ceremony that takes place in front of Gwanghwamun Gate.

This tradition originated during the Joseon Dynasty and the city decided to bring it back for reenactment in 1996. The soldiers wear colorful blue and red uniforms and gracefully patrol the gates of the palace in protection of the king. The tradition is very elegant and simply beautiful to watch!

  • Cheongwadae Sarangchae - Cheongwadae Sarangchae which serves as an exhibition hall to important Korean artifacts and documents. Here, you can learn about politics, history, and culture. Located just in front of the Blue House, this museum is a two-floor building that has a souvenir shop, so you can buy thoughtful gifts for the history lovers in your family.

On the first floor, there is a permanent exhibit that presents traditional Korean clothing, food, and music, and is a must-see! The second floor is where you will go to learn in-depth information about the Korean presidents and their legacies. You will also be inspired by the geography section which displays photos of the regions of the country that every traveler should visit!

Amazingly interesting 😁 - Changing of the guards ceremony at the Geongbukgong Palace. I would imagine how pompous the ceremony during those ancient times.

Great intro to the city - Great intro to the city! Sunny, our guide, did an amazing job explaining not only the sights but also the history and customs associated with each one. I have no idea where she gets her energy, but she is passionate and you can tell she loves what she does.

It was ok, but you can do this all yourself. - Our tour guide So Young Woo was very informative and helpful. She also had a great sense of humour. That’s about where the positives for this tour end. The tour itself was fine. But we quite easily toured around the same areas by ourselves just walking. When inside the palace there was so many tour groups (it was a Saturday) that it was extremely difficult to hear much of what the guide was saying even though she had a microphone. It would have felt less rushed to stroll around at your own pace by yourself and get a private guide or visit a museum if you’d like more information. And visit at 10 or 2 for the changing of the guard ceremony. I don’t think it was necessary to do a roll call 3 times during the half tour. We wasted time doing it and then waiting for someone to show up who had strolled off. Get yourself a local tour guide and do a walking tour instead.
