Additional Information

Enjoy a private excursion to the historical Þingvellir (Thingvellir) national park and UNESCO heritage site, one of Iceland’s most scenic spots. Travel in a private vehicle with a personal driver-guide.

In 930 AD, the Vikings established the Icelandic parliament, Alþingi (Althingi), at Þingvellir. Besides being the location for the world’s oldest parliament formation, it’s also the division point of the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Visit Hakid viewpoint for stunning panoramas of the national park and the large lake Thingvallarvatn. Press forward through Almannagja canyon to the establishment site of the ancient parliament Althingi. Continue onto Drekkingarhylur - an ancestral execution site located right beside a waterfall’s deep pool. Don’t forget to throw a coin into Peningagjá, a crystal-clear water filled crevice popular amongst divers, for a wish.

Highly recommended! - What a delightful tour! My husband and I booked this tour before getting on a cruise ship. Our lovely guide, Anna, was excellent, and a wealth of information. The park was beautiful, and the drive there was interesting and in a comfortable vehicle. I highly recommend this tour!

Highly Recommend this Tour Company! - Wow! From the very start of the tour and meeting guide Villi at our hotel, this was an incredible way to spend the day seeing some of the sights of Iceland. Villi was so knowledgeable and went out of his way to drive the more scenic routes and to take the “road less traveled” making for a unique experience seeing Iceland through the eyes of a local. The benefit of a private tour is that your guide gets to know you and your interests, so you learn about the things that matter to you. For us, that was all about Icelandic history but also about the geothermal technology (amazing!) and all of the ways Iceland is working to stop climate change. We can’t recommend this tour company enough- we will be returning to Iceland again (there is so much more yet to see) and will definitely be booking with Prime Tours again!

Gorgeous day in the National Park! - Our day was magical thanks to our guide Karl! We had a lovely drive out to the park about one hour. Time went quickly in the car as Karl entertained us with facts and lore. Once at the park we were enthralled with the beauty. Coming from Colorado we are surrounded by nature’s beauty but even we were very impressed. We do hike but for those who don’t- this is not difficult just wear appropriate footwear. Karl as a former park ranger knows so much more about the geology and geography. We had lots of questions regarding the flora and he knew the answers. His hobby is photography of birds and once again he could inform us. Karl has a deep knowledge of the Vikings and we loved hearing those stories as well. My husbands dream was to stand on the teutonic plates which he did albeit nowadays on a bridge above. We also visited the hydropower plant and drove along the pipeline- the afternoon went oh so quickly and it was an amazing excursion! Make sure you ask for Karl at Prime tours!

Magical - Starting from the car park you face a short but steep climb which, at the turn of the bend offers a truly magical panorama: walls covered in snow and small waterfalls, wide panorama and lots of small trees
