Thingvellir
Experience the wonders of the Golden Circle on a private tour. Stand between two continental plates, witness Europe's largest waterfall, and marvel at the power of Geysir's eruptions.
Duration: 8 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Thingvellir National Park - Thingvellir is the biggest national park in Iceland with many historic and geological interests. You will see where the Eurasian plate meets the North American plate (continents meet) and learn about the history that took place in Thingvellir.

  • Geysir - We’ll walk around the geothermal area where the world famous geyers, Geysir and Strokkur live. As you might have noticed, all geysers draw their name from Geysir, the first geyser to be documented in Europe. Geysir can sometimes be a bit moody about erupting but his little brother, Strokkur, will definitely put on a show for you.

  • Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss waterfall is the largest waterfall in Europe by volume.
It’s possible to see it from a distance up high but also to walk up close for that picture of a lifetime.

  • Kerid Crater - Kerid crater is believed to be 6500 years old and the remnants of a volcano which stood there long
ago. We’ll be able to walk down to the bottom of the crater where a shallow lake has formed amid the volcanic rock. The view from the brim of the crater is also a sigh to see.

Additional Information

Experience the unique phenomenon of standing between two continental plates at Þingvellir, a constantly changing geological landscape that holds the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be mesmerized by the stunning sight of Gullfoss, Europe’s waterfall with the largest volume. Witness the earliest documented geyser, Geysir, from which the English term originates. Geysir is known to project boiling water to heights of 70 metres (230 ft), although historical accounts claim that in the 19th century, the water would soar up to an astounding 170 metres (560 ft).

Book it. Look forward to it. Stop Searching. Brilliant. - When you travel to somewhere new, seasoned traveller or not, bringing the kids along... you need a little help! From the first email Palmer and Asgeir could not have been more helpful or reassuring. We never felt that any request was too annoying, or that any question was too daft! When it came to the days out, whilst you of course tick off the big ticket items (for example on the Golden Circle tour or the Northern Lights Hunt...) what we will remember more were the little touches. 'See the main thing like everyone else... then let me show you a quieter spot thats actually more stunning... and repeat!' The tales from Asgeir about industry, how people deal with the volcanos... what is being done to protect the infrastructure... and how salad, veg, fruit are grown... (and seeing the factories... those meant so much to us. Never rushed, just a lovely man with us, a terrific manner with our kids - our 9 year old was sad to leave because of his new friend! While no tour company will guarantee finding the Northern Lights we genuinely felt that we were an aligned five the night we went hunting, and to see his delight at OUR delight when we found them was also lovely! If you want trustworthy, knowledgeable, friendly private tours from proud, expert Islanders (who by the way KNOW how to drive in the snow!) in comfort... the only reason I wouldn't say 'don't look anywhere else' is just in case they are not free when we come back!!! 100% recommended, a gem of a find to ensure a lifetime of memories... will definitely be booking again. (5 stars is not enough!)

Unforgettable tour of a lifetime - The Golden Circle Tour was the highlight of our Iceland trip! Family owned , on time , polite, and SO informative about the history of all that we saw during our tour . He was wonderful . At the end of our tour it seemed like we were saying good bye to family rather than our tour guide!!! Highly recommend this tour . You will not be disappointed .

An amazing experience! - A fantastic way to discover Iceland. Asgeir was our guide for 3 days and that was great. A man with love, enthusiasm and pride for his country and he knows how to convey that perfectly. Very helpful and genuinely cares about his customers. He also has a wonderful sense of humor. The car is very comfortable and Asgeir wants to show you as much as possible. It was really a pleasure to be out with him. An experience that we will remember with great pleasure for a long time to come. If we are lucky enough to travel to Iceland again, we will contact him immediately.

The tour you need in Iceland - I went on a golden circle tour with Atlas Tours and it was amazing! The car is very comfortable and our guide and driver, Pálmar was so friendly and nice. There was no rush but we still got to see everything this beautiful area has to offer which was important to me since I'm a photographer and wanted to document these places. He took us to all the most amazing ones and it was so much fun. Thank you so much for having us! I will hold this memory very close to my heart. I highly recommend this company! All the best to you Best regards Rán

Perfect Private Golden Circle Tour! - The perfect way to start our Icelandic adventure! We wanted someone to give us a tour of the golden circle on our first day. Asegir had plenty of room for the 3 of us - the SUV has seating for 7. He drove us all around the Golden Circle. He and his family are native Icelanders and it was wonderful to hang out with him and hear about the sites from his perspective. Even though he was very knowledgeable and conversational, the entire tour was also low key and flexible. We were super tired after our short red eye flight from the states and napped a bit between stops. We had plenty of time for bathroom and food stops and to see all the sites. Very easy to communicate before the trip and pick up and drop off was very easy and smooth. Some walking and hiking, some steps and hills but nothing too strenuous. The Icelandic spring can be very wet and rainy so wearing long johns, rain pants and coats, warm sweaters and jackets, hats and gloves was very helpful. Asegir even let one of us borrow his very warm hand knit Icelandic sweater for the day! The Icelandic landscape is gorgeous and striking even in wet and rainy weather. This tour was a wonderful and easy way to experience it.

Amazing experience! - It was my first (but not last) time in Iceland and I had an amazing experience! I saw so many beautiful natural wonders and for that I want to thank our guide, Palmar! He gave a wonderful tour, answered all my questions (and there were many) and showed very cool places that I would love to go back to again, also with Palmar:) I highly recommend this tour with real experts and fans of their work.
