Unfortunately Not Worth It - I feel bad writing this review as Jose, the tour operator, and Antonio, the guide, were very nice. However I would say this tour isn’t worth the money. There are lots of guides selling their tours at the entrance of the park so, upon meeting Jose, I didn’t know he was the person I was looking for. Eventually we cleared that up and he set us up with Antonio, who would be our guide through the park. He was very lively and entertaining, but I can’t say I learned anything about the caves. I bought the tour hoping to learn something beyond what I would learn from exploring the park on my own. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to provide that. He did provide some facts about the depth and temp of the water, the calcium carbonate that made the water blue. But he wasn’t able to answer our questions as he only had a few facts on hand. He wanted to give the tour in English but even when I asked questions in Spanish he wasn’t able to give much information. He also clearly had other tours to get to, so he rushed us through the park. The tour lasted an hour, which would’ve been fine if I’d learned something within that hour, but in the end I felt more exhausted then when I started. It likely would’ve been shorter if I didn’t make him stop to give me more time to appreciate the surroundings. Once he left us, we explored the park on our own, which was really nice. Overall it felt like a rushed experience with slight “scam vibes”. I think I would’ve preferred to buy an entrance ticket and look up the information on Wikipedia. Tip for those going: Ubers are tough to get to the park as many will cancel your ride due to how cheap the app pays the drivers. When you book an Uber, be prepared for drivers to call you and offer to take you for $20 one way if you cancel the ride. Be ready to negotiate that though.

Sucking money out of tourists pockets - The tour started out extremely well, and Juan Carlos helped us with any questions we had. The tour was informative and fun, with many pictures taken. It was at the end of the tour, that left a bad taste in our mouths, and was solely to take advantage of the tourists. Juan instructed us to go through the gift and souvenir building, and it was there, that the aggressive bordering on pushing to buy extremely overpriced souvenirs began. Juan began as a trustworthy tour guide, to one that was part of the money making machine. Pushy sales tactics, just to get extra money out of tourist pockets. We were in disbelief, and now have second thoughts about doing any other tours in the DR.
