  • Tangol - After hotel pickup, head by coach toward the city center, and listen to your expert guide share the history of Salta.

Founded in the 16th century by Spanish visionary Hernando de Lerma, Salta turned into a wildly successful trading center. See evidence of Salta’s heyday in the gold-plated cathedrals and mansions as your vehicle winds through the city, which went into decline after Argentina’s war for independence and the changing of trading routes on the Pacific coast. Today, Salta is known for its beautiful and well-preserved colonial architecture.

Beauty everywhere - Did the Salta to Cachi to Cafayate to Salta loop. Lots of driving through gorgeous country. Dinner at Bistro de Cachi was excellent. Loved Cafayate and Porvenir Winery. Salta has a lively downtown that we enjoyed.

Jump the pretty one!!!! - Generally I try to eat typical local foods. The empanadas are exquisite. Salteño nougat dessert. Apart from the classic excursions. A tour of the San Miguel market, where you can find a variety of spices. Reasonable prices. Plaza San Martin Fair where you can find souvenirs at a good price. Wear comfortable clothes because there is a lot of walking. Waterproof jacket because the weather in December is rainy.

Salta #23 - Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave a keen historical perspective of every site we visited. Names, dates, and locations were explained without any difficulty. Highly recommend this tour. 😎

Be cautious about the advertised language of the tour! - The tour guide and the driver were both excellent, however, we purchased this tour because it said that it was in English. This was not the case. Although the tour guide made great effort to speak first in Spanish and the English, that is not what we signed up for. It was impossible to understand questions from the group, communicate with other group members (because we were the only English-speaking people on the tour) or get a full understanding of what was being said. We would have booked a different tour if we had known that it was not exclusively in English. I would suggest that you make that clear in the future because when we purchased the tour, it clearly said that it was in English - not Spanish and English.

Pleasant city with charming walks (Cachi and Cafayate). - Don't go to enjoy New Year's Eve, the city is deserted, good restaurants are closed. Those that open are overcrowded. We left the fantastic hotel (Hotel de la Plaza) at 22:00 and had to settle for a very simple restaurant that accommodated us together with another couple. I recommend Charrua restaurant that didn't open on New Year's Eve. The cable car didn't work on the first day, the cloud train would only work on the 6th, leaving from SAN Antônio de Los Cobres. The Salta match no longer exists.

Not worth the time - Way too much time in the sightseeing van; would have enjoyed more of a walking tour. But then again, there really isn’t much to see in the city of Salta: it’s really more of the larger hub as a base to go see other smaller towns in the province.
