Landscapes with traditions, a moment of pure happiness - My wife and I spent two hours with Domi, our guide, an Arlesian who has lived in Saintes Maries de la Mer for many years. We were thus able to benefit from his knowledge and his passion for Camargue traditions. We showed up at the office ten minutes before departure, as requested. We left on time after the presentations, all smiles. We leave the city to enter Pont de Gau. The first stop is, luckily, in front of some ibises on one side and pink flamingos on the other. February is a good time to see these because it is mating season, and the colors are marked. We learn that they migrate less because they find everything in the Camargue, the only breeding ground in France. The female lays only one egg per year and there is reason to protect the species. We witness with great poetry the flight of some of them. Then, we continued our journey towards Camargue horses with thick hooves, adapted to the marshy and earthy soil of the Camargue, as well as the famous bulls. Domi took the opportunity to tell us about the geographical Camargue, its history, the fauna and flora, the bull races, the herdsmen, with documents to allow us to visualize. This is how we were able to discover reed beds or fields of reeds, rice fields (with the way in which rice is cultivated and how it arrived in the Camargue), and more generally sansouire (local vegetation). We ended our little journey with a visit to the mouth, the place where the little Rhône meets the sea. There is also an islet of cats. Nearby is the tomb of the Marquis Folco de Baroncelli, who worked for Camargue and gypsy traditions. Next to him is the stele of his horse. I could have enriched this contribution with all the details given by our guide, both on a cultural and historical level, but we must not reveal everything. I recommend this two-hour safari.

Turned political! - The guide was very informative. However, it turned a little political with his views on how the ecologists were affecting the area. The tour was supposed to be about the flora and fauna about the area, he knew almost nothing about the flamingos. He mostly explained to us the workings of the bull races, which was interesting but a little too long. But then he was insulted when no one in the group wanted to know anything about the Spanish bull fighting! We are in France, not Spain! I’m glad we went but would not recommend. Very cramped vehicle. Much better to just read online about the area and drive around in your own car

A wasted morning and a disappointed child. - “Appointment at 10:00, please come 10 minutes before” We drove 45 minutes with my wife and my 3 year old daughter to do this activity. We arrived at 09:45 and at 10:05 we were told that the guide was not there. That's all. A proposal to return at 2 p.m. which was impossible for us because other activities were planned. And that's all. Didn't take the initiative to try to contact another guide. Not offering another day with a commercial gesture for the inconvenience. Shame.
