Chateau du Petit Thouars - Discover the unique history of the Château du Petit Thouars, a family-owned castle built in 1423 by the Dukes of Thouars. Owned by the Aubert du Petit Thouars family since 1636, the castle has been passed from father-to-son in a direct line, with a vineyard in existence on the property for hundreds of years.

Visitors will visit Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc vines and learn about vineyard practices in the Chinon appellation.

A leisurely stroll will take you to our troglodyte caves where our wines are vinified and aged on-site. You will be walked through French wine vinification practices.

Returning to the château you will taste our range of wines.

After the tasting you will be brought to a special location on the estate to enjoy your private countryside lunch (salads, cheeses, deli meats, and a special local dessert: the winemaker’s tart) on a beautifully dressed table with a bottle of wine to enjoy.

Our family-owned château, situated a short 10-minute journey from the heart of Chinon in the Loire Valley, welcomes you for a captivating tour of our AOC CHINON vineyard, renowned for its Cabernet Franc and Chenin blanc grapes. The tour gradually unfolds to reveal our cellar and concludes with a unique wine tasting experience in a room steeped in history. Your visit concludes with a beautifully-prepared picnic lunch accompanied by a bottle of our finest wine, served with a view of the vineyard. Excellent time spent - Very beautiful castle and magnificent views. Perfect welcome and the romantic lunch location was magnificent (given the weather conditions). The content of this lunch was also very pleasant and the tasting of the wines, produced on site, was very generous. Our host's explanations were top notch. She listened to us and was able to answer all our questions. The little extra would be to see a little more of the interior of this castle.

Great picnic - Sebastian was a delightful host: informative, kind, and engaging. We loved learning about the almost 4 centuries the chateau has been in his family and how that impacts his precious party of five today. The homemade tomato salad and carrot salad as well as meat, bread, goat cheese, dessert, and of course wine! Made for a fabulous picnic. We would highly recommend, and we do not give false praise!

Relaxing tour - The arrangement is just perfect. We did have a great time to enjoy the vineyard visit as well as the picnic. The wine tasting session is also very interesting. Will definitely introduce friends to visit there.

Wonderful visit - It was spectacular. We were very lucky with the weather, the picnic setting was wonderful, calm and incredibly beautiful. The visit was very interesting, and we learned a lot during the tasting. Sébastien and his wife welcomed us warmly. For the price, I recommend without hesitation. A romantic afternoon absolutely worth repeating. THANKS!

Lovely introduction to the Loire Valley!! - Sebastian was a wonderful informative host. We toured the vineyard and tasted a variety of wines from his small family vineyard, they were very good! Our lunch was plentiful and delicious. I would highly recommend this experience!

Great experience - Very good experience visiting this wine estate, which in addition to being a wine producer is also a beautiful Renaissance castle. The host is excellent in this visit and in these explanations. Both historically and viticulturally. The underground cellars are very cool (18°) when the outside temperature is 38°!! Are remarkable. The explanations are very understandable for beginners. We finished the visit with a very good picnic under the trees, very close to the vineyards!! Raw vegetables, local cold meats (rillettes and rabbit terrine), local cheeses and to finish a beautiful strawberry tart. I highly recommend...
