Situated around 60 kilometers from the center of Baku, Gobustan is a historical region that has earned a place on the UNESCO Heritage list. Gobustan is known for its rich collection of archaeological sites.

The reserve boasts of in excess of 6,000 rock inscriptions, the oldest dating back 40,000 years. The area also contains the remains of ancient caves, settlements, and burial sites, indicative of heavy usage by human beings in the period following the last Ice Age, stretching from the Upper Paleolithic to the Middle Ages.

There are over a thousand mud volcanoes found worldwide, and nearly 400 of these are located along the Azerbaijani coast.

Nice half day trip - We booked the trip without knowing what to expect as there were no review yet. We have been pleasantly surprise by our host who introduced us to qobustan and the mud volcanos. We discussed many topics during the drive and it was all quite interesting.
