Additional Information

Glistening Lake Titicaca, the highest body of water able to accommodate navigation in the world, is a highlight in Peru that is not to be overlooked. It serves as a dividing line between Peru and Bolivia.

Known as the “Lake Shaped like a Puma”, this vast body of water, extending over 8372 Km, is a sanctuary for several indigenous communities who remain uninfluenced by modern civilization. During this half day expedition from Puno, you will get a chance to see the most photographed and striking human-constructed Uros Floating Islands, fully made of totora reeds.

Centuries ago, the Uro-Aymara families living on Lake Titicaca realized the potential of totora reeds and used them to construct these islands. The inhabitants use the same material for fashioning their boats, aiding them in their fishing pursuits.

The island dwellers also create handcrafts from totora reeds. These friendly locals present their creation to guests as mementos from their unique and enchanting home.
