Cacao pleasure - This was one of the highlights of my trip to Costa Rica. We learned so much about the Bribri culture. We took a walk through the area and learned about medicinal plants and cacao. We saw the whole process of picking the cacao fruit to making chocolate. Very informative and fun. Ending our excursion at a waterfall was so refreshing.

Don’t miss it! - Braulio was an amazing guide with BriBri origins. He had great knowledge of their traditional practices and also their current challenges. The medicinal herb garden, frogs and chocolate making were really interesting and Braulio made it fun. The dip in the waterfall and coconut water/cocktail and music break was also unforgettable.

Take this trip…Braulio is a super guy! - Braulio is salt of the earth. We enjoyed him so much. He is easy to communicate with (excellent English) and really a fantastic human. You can feel his enthusiasm through his words. Our driver was very pleasant too. The BriBri people were all so kind (and had good humor too 😊). Things we enjoyed: learning about the plants in their garden/smelling/tasting and guessing what they were, learning small snippets of the BriBri language, hand processing cacao beans and of course the tasting! The waterfall hike was short and kids loved swimming through the bottom of the waterfall. Our kids loved the pineapple snack at the end. Cannot beat the pineapple here! 🍍 Thank you so much for the hospitality!

Amazing experience! - Gosh where do I start?? This tour was amazing!! Braulio was so awesome. He was so knowledgeable and funny! The tour started out with a little history of the area and its people which was very interesting. Brush up on your bribri— you learn a little bit of the native tongue! Then he showed us around the acreage. We stopped at almost every tree or plant where we either smelled or tasted guessing what it could be. Braulio told us of the medicinal benefits or cooking used of each plant/tree. We tried raw cocoa plant, which I didn’t know was edible. It is sweet and slimy. It’s more of a sucking and discard candy rather than something you chew and ingest. We went into the ceremonial/spiritual teepee where a fire burns at all times. You go there to be at peace, appreciate and sometimes ask for help from a shaman. Finally, we learned every step of the cocoa making process. I won’t go into it— YOU NEED TO EXPERIENCE IT! You end up making a drinking hot cocoa and eating roasted bananas. In the end we were treated to an authentic lunch which was AMAZING chicken, rice, fried banana and yuca along with a limeade. Bring your own fork— you eat with your hands haha! The tour ended with a short drive to the waterfall where we spent about an hour. The water is chilly but you adjust quickly. It is about a 7 minute hike to the waterfall so wear close-toed shoes— there will be fire ants!! The tour probably lasted a good 6 hours from about 815am-2pm. It was jam packed full of fun and interesting activities with a good amount of laughs! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Authentic chocolate making and immersive and informative tour - We were welcomed by Alex at our hostel in the morning. His driver and him safely took us to the experience. On our way we stopped to see wildlife and he answered any of our questions about the day. At the village, Alex showed us around the garden and was accompanied by the owner who was interactive and engaging. Alex was very informative, engaging and inclusive to everyone. The chocolate making was a highlight of our trip. Alex shared with us how chocolate is used in the Bribri culture. The waterfall was a refreshing and spectacular ending of the tour. Thank you from Polly, Hannah and Rosa

not much excitement.. - it was an average trip i don’t think worth it the money .. waterfall with a fruit snack was better as the first part of the trip where i would love to hear more about the cocoa plantation.. or about the bribri culture.
