Highlights
  • Puerto Natales - After hotel pickup in Puerto Natales, travel with your guide north to the mountain of Cerro Benitez and arrive at Milodon Cave Natural Monument.

  • Cueva del Milodon - Walk inside a cave and encounter a life-size replica of a prehistoric giant sloth called the mylodon, which looks like a large bear standing on its hind legs. During a guided tour, learn about the 1896 discovery of this extinct creature, believed to be twice the height of an average human and to have inhabited the area more than 10,000 years ago. Then visit several stalactite-studded caves and a massive rock formation called Devil’s Chair (Silla del Diablo).

  • Cerro Castillo - Back in the vehicle, continue north and enjoy a break of coffee and snacks (own expense) at a villa in Castle Hill (Cerro Castillo), before entering Torres del Paine National Park, whose name means ‘Towers of the Blue Sky.’ Spanning more than 447,000 acres (181,000 hectares), this nature wonderland located in southern Chilean Patagonia was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1978.

  • Lago Sarmiento - Drive along the banks of Sarmiento Lake, created by a glacier and situated on the Patagonian steppe, and stretch your legs at a vista point to fully appreciate the lake’s deep blue center fringed in white formed by calcium deposits. From here, your guide points out snow-drizzled mountains of the Cordillera del Paine that cut through the middle of the park.

  • Nordenskjold Lake - Continue westward to Nordenskjöld Lake, where you’ll walk for 20 minutes and come upon the roaring Salto Grande Waterfall, the outfall of the river-fed lake. From this viewpoint, scan the panoramas for herds of guanaco, which may strike you as a mix of llama and camel.

  • Lake Pehoé - Then travel to the center of the park toward rustic Hosteria Pehoé, located on an islet in Lake Pehoé. Cross a footbridge to reach the hotel and dig into lunch in its inviting restaurant (see sample menu in Itinerary below). Afterward, stroll about in wonder at spectacular views of turquoise waters and what are referred to as the ‘horned’ peaks of the Cordillera del Paine.

  • Grey Lake - Following this leisurely break, head to the north end of Grey Lake. After an easy 30-minute hike, behold the glacier mass that feeds into the lake, nearly 4 miles (6 km) wide and towering 90 feet (30 meters) high. From a distance, the ice floes resemble an immense spread of frothy ocean waves frozen in time, their various hues of blue combining at certain points into a grey sheen, lending the lake its name.

  • Laguna Amarga - During your return to Puerto Natales, travel along Amarga Lagoon and capture views of the famous Paine Towers. Admire the three towers of granite with jagged peaks that spike skyward, the perfect image to finish a day of memorable sights.

Note: Entrance fees to Milodon Cave Natural Monument and Torres del Paine National Park are your own expense.

Must see, Torres del Paine - Jhon, guide and Alex R, driver were both fabulous! They were engaging, entertaining and learned each of our names making it feel very personal. They gave us history, folk lore and explained wild life, flora and fauna. We were able to see a PUMA on the hunt for guanaco along with seeing fox and rhea. Exceptional tour, the park was outstanding but Jhon and Alex put it over the top:)

Torres del Paine in 1 day - A well organised tour with an excellent guide (Roseanna) and a good itinerary covering all the park's highlights. Excellent steak lunch too. The local tour operator used was Planet Patagonia.

Pureto Natales - Drive and trip was good. Lunch was below average. Should have covered more areas in the park. Park entrance fees should have been pre collected at time of booking rather than to bring cash.

Spectacular Patagonian glaciated landscape - It is so beautiful. Compared to the alpine glaciated landscapes of British Columbia ,Noeway & New Zealand it is the absolutely the top place to visit .

Full-Day Tour of Torres del Paine National Park from Puerto Natales - This was a comprehensive visit to the park and we were blessed with excellent weather that permitted a great view of all the major features. The visit to the cave was pretty pointless and excessively proved for what proved to the a fairly boring experience. I think this could easily be dropped, thus shortening the day and making it more interesting. We opted for the lunch and I recommend against this. The meal was easily the worst I have had in Chile. Our guide Carla was excellent, full of information and a pleasure to be with. The major access roads to the park we under repair in many areas and very rough which made the trip unpleasant.

10 people max is not true - There were 14 people on our bus even though the advertisement says 10 max. I bought this based on a smaller group size. Guide and driver were good and helpful. Lots of sitting on a bus so be prepared for a long haul drive. Lunch was better than expected. Some passengers were late getting back to the bus which caused delays.

Bait and Switch - Before our departure, we booked a 4-hour excursion for a hike with Trip Advisor. We are 2 seniors, with knee and hip problems. So we Booked a 4-Hour hike. The night before the departure, Trip Advisor changed the hike to an 8-hour hike. As soon as we got the email we called, emailed and texted with absolutely no answer or reply. We met driver at our hotel at 6 AM in Puerto Natales. We told him we could not do the excursion, and why and that we tried to contact them multiple times. (I’m 77 and my companion is 65.) The cost for two people was $282. We tried to get a refund. It was denied. Because of this experience I will NEVER EVER BOOK anything with Trip Advisor ever again. It was not our fault. Trip Advisor CHANGED THE EXCURSION. I also wrote a review/report today on Facebook to warn others. I live on social security. I can not afford to lose $141 for something I could not do. Very Very upset.
