Additional Information

Hello, I’m Anna Maria Priora, an Italian certified tour guide with a doctorate in WWII history in Italy from Humboldt University of Berlin. I am eager to share with you the crucial episodes of the 4 Cassino Battles, as well as the individual stories from Veterans, underscoring that their remembrance is key for our future.

I will meet you with my Italian Minivan at Cassino’s train station and will begin with a brief introduction of the new town, completely reconstructed after the war.
We will pause in the town where the German Headquarter was situated, subsequently moving to Castle Hill (where the Kiwis and the Gurkas launched their attack on the Abbey) and then to the Belvedere, from where I will illustrate the Liri valley where the disputes took place.
We plan to explore the Abbey of Monte Cassino from a WWII perspective, and afterward, we will stop by the Commonwealth Cemetery.

Cassino Battlefields. Anna highly recommended. - Anna was extremely knowledgeable as to the WW2 battles at Cassino and on Italian culture and history. She was animated and has a great sense of humour. She is also a good driver! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with her even the battlefields and history are very sobering.

An amazing tour! - I am glad I had such a knowledgeable and great guide to take me through this historical battle. One of, if not the best guided historical tours I have done to date! Took us to all the important places. The hours flew by, without anything feeling rushed! Answered any questions me or my fellow group member would have.

An unmissable tour - This was a last minute booking and I am so glad I made it . Anna picked me up at the railway Station in Cassino and I found I was that mornings only passenger in the airconditioned mini bus. We drove south away from Cassino to a position below where Gen. Mark Clark had taken a view over the battlefield Of Monte Cassino which meant our view was as he would have seen it. Anna explained the phases of the battle and was clearly very knowledgeable about her subject. I should have made a note about where we stopped but one stop was at the Rapido river where the Americans had tried to cross. The next stop was at the Commonwealth War Cemetery which was overlooked by the Abbey, a very emotional stop. Onto the Abbey where we had a good look around some of the battle damaged buildings and she explained the process of the Abbey being rebuilt after the bombing . Anna was a great guide, very chatty and friendly and we had a good chat not only about the battle but life in general, I would 100% recommend her as a guide.

Memorable tour! - Anna’s tour was so special. She generously shared her in-depth knowledge, personal insights and also her time. Anna added us to her busy itinerary for an afternoon tour- thank you Anna! As a tour leader she is engaging, amusing at all the right times, and a careful and considerate host. She was able to provide context, both historical and geographical, to the glimpses of knowledge I had gleaned from my father. If you’re considering taking this tour, don’t hesitate. It was brilliant. Diolch Anna- thank you so much.

Life changing experience - We both had an absolutely fantastic experience. Anna is the most genuine caring guide who obviously enjoys sharing the history of not only the battle of Montecassino but of the struggles her people endured during and after the war. She expressed a huge gratitude to the allies who fought during this battle. .

Aspirational Anna - Anna is amazing. Her knowledge of the Battle of Cassino as well as of the town and particularly the Abbey was inspiring. Her command of languages and her passion, made history come to life. I would encourage everyone who is even considering going anywhere near Cassino to spend an afternoon with Anna.

Emotional and Amazing - Anna is an amazing guide her in-depth knowledge and understanding of the events that took place in the Battles of Casino was incredible. My wife’s father fought in three of the battles for Cassino attached to the NZEF 27th Machinegun Battalion. Anna picked us up from our accommodation and tailored the tour based on the information her father gave us in his 99th year. Going to Cassino was an amassing and emotional experience and one we will never forget. Anna gave us an exceptional and comprehensive account of the four battles and the part all the New Zealanders played, taking us to the exact location where the 27th machine gunners were dug in and gave a detailed account of the 28th Māori Battalions integrate and heroic part they played for battle of the railway station. We can only, highly recommend this tour. Thank you, Anna.
