Is surfing a new sport for you or something you’ve tried just a couple of times? Then, this is the lesson you’ve been seeking.
Learn in an enjoyable, safe, and supportive manner, as you ride your first waves while gathering the advice and assistance required to enhance your surfing abilities.
My name is João, a local surfer from Porto with three decades of surfing under my belt. As a well-travelled surfer and a former international competitor, I now manage ‘Surf Coaching Porto’. I have been a certified Surf Coach, as accredited by the Portuguese Surfing Federation, since 1998, and I will be your guide, no exceptions!
I have experience mentoring local surfers and instructing foreigners on the basics of surfing and developing their surfing talents. In addition, I cooperate with the World Surf League as a Surf Guide, facilitating surf training camps in Porto and leading international surf excursions.
To top that, I hit the waves daily ;)

5 Stars - Amazing for beginners! - I was a bit nervous given my first time surfing, but the instructors really knew what they were doing and made me feel comfortable and confident! You get a lot of time in the water to practice and the instructors really critique and help you as you go. The pictures also turned out amazing at the end. Would recommend for anyone looking to try surfing in the Porto area!

Surfing lesson experience - Booked and went for the morning session with João. It was my first time surfing however with Joãos surfing background and excellent training I was able to pick up the sport and catch some decent waves.
Would defo recommend to anyone looking to surf and learn as unlike other big schools you get more personal 1 to 1 feedback which was extremely helpful.

Amazing Experience - My friends and I had an incredible time surfing! The instructors were very patient with us as we were all first timers, and provided everything from wetsuits to surfboards. Highly recommend!

BOOK WITH THEM! RECOMMEND! - MUST DO!! had so much fun surfing and instructors were a blast. They were funny, helpful, and wanted you to have the best experience. Going back tomorrow to do it again. For the price too you can’t beat it!

Great surf time in Porto! - Fantastic surfing adventure with knowledgable and charming instructor. Had great times and also included surf videos of myself.
The surfing class lasted 30 minutes beyond what was advertised. I couldn't be happier!

Best place to go if you want to learn how to surf! - I highly recommend Joao and Surf Coaching Porto!
I spent a year in Porto and regularly took lessons with Joao throughout that time. From the very first lesson, I could immediately tell that it was different from other surf schools. The focus here is on quality and attention to detail, both in teaching and equipment. If you're looking to learn how to surf with good technique, this is the place to be. Joao doesn't mind if the lesson goes over the scheduled time; he's more concerned about everyone having a great surf session. He truly helped me in making significant progress and becoming a confident and independent surfer.
The small class sizes and emphasis on individual learning and progression is what makes Surf Coaching Porto unique!

Great time with amazing fun instructors - We had a great time with Joao and Rui in a small group of 6. They were amazing instructors and lots of fun! Everyone got up standing on waves and had a good laugh. Great technique training and awareness of safety

Best experience ever - It was the greatest experience I've ever had. Surfing for the first time was unknown territory for us, but having João as our guide made all the difference. I highly recommend trying surfing with João when you're in Porto. Just trust me, you won't regret it.

Surfing with friends - Joao is a really good coach who takes time for every single person. He gave us a lot of help and indidivual tips since we didn`t know how to surf. It was really fun with him and we all left happy with some small successes. The price was top and we really enjoyed the time there. Hopefully we can manage to come back soon! :)
